I just got home from the hospital yesterday and I must say I am doing better than I imagined I would. I have been getting in my Water and most of my Protein. I even had some zucchini puree. I am feeling stronger everyday. I must say however that the first two days in the hospital were torturous. My mouth has never been so dry and I have not been that sleep deprived since freshman year of college. I strongly suggest that you get plenty of sleep before you go and limit visitation to after the hospital. I hope this information is helpful to those of you about to undergo this procedure.

Sorry you had a rough time in the hospital, mine was smoooooth. I slept so much I felt refreshed! I had a lot of pain after surgery, so they kept me pretty medicated, which is why I slept so much. My wonderful boyfriend stayed with me both nights! I am so grateful to him for that! It was probably the best hospital stay I've ever had!

The first night in the hospital I had trouble going to the restroom. The nurse turned up the Fluid and it started to help me go but.......the next night after I had been going to the restroom all day the Fluid wasn't turned down. I being me, didn't realize that it needed to go back down and was up peeing ALL NIGHT! Seriously, I would no more than get into the bed strap my legs back up to the "no clot" things and I'd be having to undo them withing 10-15 minutes. I should have called the nurse but didn't realize it at the time. UGH! :) My doc came in the next morning and I told him and he asked , "Well why are you still hooked up to this thing?" My ingenious answer, " I don't know!" So, that was my second night. The first night I couldn't sleep, to much anxiety. I walked probably every half hour except for two times that I actually was able to sleep one whole hour at a time! The nurses were great and so attentive but I was so glad to get home Friday.

Home for three days now and doing OK as far as I can tell. Unfortunately, this is my last week for some summer classes that I have been taking so I can't just be a total veg and sleep as much as I would like to do so!

I am starving. I am hoping to be approved for mushies this weekend when I plan to tear open a can of refried Beans. I hope I start feeling better then, because it has been horrible so far.

I am with you DrMommy, I have had a horrible couple of days! Surgery went great but I have had no energy and am so looking forward to pureed foods so hopefully I can get my energy up. I am not starving, in fact I don't feel anything, not hungry, not thirsty, not full.....it is irritating! Good luck to you! Fortunately I get to start pureed foods tomorrow!! Yay!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
