Nancy Rivers 24 Posted July 28, 2011 So for lunch today, I decided to have some bean & ham Soup made by Healthy Choice and pureed it. I also thought that I would up the Protein content by adding some unflavored Protein powder to it. I did this yesterday and it was fine. Unfortunately, the brand I added today made it awfully sweet - too sweet really. I had several packets of samples, that's why I used different brands (I had finished off the one brand yesterday). I hate to waste food. How can I make the now too sweet Soup not so sweet? Any suggestions? I'm on full liquids/pureed foods until Tuesday.
SeattleSue 25 Posted July 28, 2011 ick mustard? vinegar? Tomato?
Wheetsin 714 Posted July 28, 2011 Add another can of Soup, thus diluting the sweetness. Saltiness will usually cut sweetness. You can try NuSalt or equivalant if you're watching sodium. Cutting is probably your best bet.
Nancy Rivers 24 Posted July 28, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. A couple of people on Facebook also suggested vinegar - so I think I will try that tomorrow after I get to the store. The Soup is already pretty salty (I am rather sensitive to it growing up with a mother who refused to use salt to cook with), so I'm reluctant to add more salt (or non-salt) to it. myrori 55 Posted July 28, 2011 it is OK to let go of the food! I found the need to save food replaced the need to eat it in the beginning.
Nancy Rivers 24 Posted July 29, 2011 Yeah, if the vinegar doesn't work, I'm tossing it. But I wanted to try to "salvage" it first.
MystryRed 0 Posted July 29, 2011 You might try adding some chicken/beef broth to it. I remember somewhere that you might be able to add potato to something and that helps with saltiness but it might work with the sweet. You might try mashed potato flakes and then add some broth to thin it back down. That might help it. I remember having to live on the liquids and didnt want to waste what I had made, I mean come on you had 16oz or more of Soup and you only eat 2-4 oz at a time. Good Luck.
