Hi I'm Michele. I'm new to the site and starting KP insurance on Monday Aug 1, and have a doctor's appointment at 9am that day. I can hardly wait to to get this process going. The fear of being rejected is haunting me. I'm right on the 40 BMI border and the other only other issues I have are really painful joints and mild arthritis. I'm grateful for my low BP and no diabetes, I just hope qualify for the surgery. I'll be 51 on Aug 27 and have been a prisoner of my weight for as long as I can remember. I'm so tired of trying and failing, my heart is set on this surgery. I'm not looking forward to jumping through all the previously mentioned hoops but if I don't get turned away I'll tackle them all one at a time. I'm seeing a primary doctor in Mission Hills that referred my friend for surgery and my friend even emailed her (The doctor) and asked her to take me as a patient and she did. Then I will be (I'm guessing) doing the Options stuff through Panorama City. Please send me some good energy that I get accepted. Thanks everyone and I look forward to knowing you and hearing your stories.

Good luck and welcome! Get ready and prepare yourself for the hoop jumping, it's kinda inevitable. lol. Some people depending on their insurance have a lot more to go trhough to be approved, some don't. I had a ton of hoops, a bazillion drs appointments but am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I am hopefully looking at surgery the middle of September.

Regarding co-morbidities, have you had a sleep study at all? I too was worried about not getting approved, and although I am not approved yet because they don't submit all the paperwork for approval until you have completed everything, I am pretty sure I will be as I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. It was a pre-op requirement of my surgeon and from what I know most surgeon's, so you may have it which will get you approval, If not, just try to stay at the 40BMI and that alone will get you approved. Although I don't know about joint pain as being a co-morbidity, but it may be. I seem to remember getting asked that all the time so maybe. Anyway good luck on your journey and feel free to post with any other questions, there are a ton of already been sleeved posters on here and they are a wealth of information!

Sending positive vibes your way! You'll be fine. The hoops keep you focused and further ones commitment to making life better for you and your body. I learned a lot along the way and although they can be a nuisance, they are required by some insurance companies and so it goes. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
