Dear Food.... I miss you

Recommended Posts

Dear food,

I miss you very much. I have been hanging out with your friend liquids for a while and just like fish and company, it got old and stinky after 3 days. I miss crunching and chewing. I stared longingly at my dog as she crunched away on her kibble. Oh, to crunch again! What does that feel like again? I don't think I even remember.

My friend/enemy scale tries to make me feel better by dropping her numbers to throw me a bone, and while that's great and all.... I miss chewing. I think I might go make a paper chain like when I was a kid to count down the days until I can enjoy you again. I can't wait to kick this jerk Soup to the curb.

So, Food... while our passionate love affair is what got me into this situation in the first place, I'd like you to please come back and let's give things another shot, in moderation this time. Let's not get all crazy like last time. Come on home, please. You've been dearly missed!!

Sincerely,

Me

Thanks for the laugh this afternoon, I needed it.

You will get through it and it will soon be a distant memory. Trust me, I knew I had to turn off the tv during my recovery time when I thought the dog food commercials looked good.

Hang in there, it's all worth it.

Pulled pork sandwiches???? What is that? Call me dumb but really what is that? is that like shredded pork meat? never had that.

Really?? lol. It's pork that is slow cooked until it just shreds and they put BBQ Sauce on it. It's divine.

...maybe I shoudlnt' have told you. I don't want anyone else to have to suffer these cravings too!! lol

The subway ads have been appetizing haven't they? It's the only ad on TV right now for food that actually appeals to me. All the rest seem to turn my stomach. Although, the Olive Garden ones that feature their Soup & salad are also starting to appeal to me.

You'll get through this. Perhaps making a snow cone or smoothie with larger chunks of ice that you "chew on" will help with the wanting to crunch something. I know it's not the same, but it could potentially help and wouldn't derail you.

I love your letter. I think I will be feeling the same way in about 6 hours once I am through with surgery. Yay! Surgery today at 10:45am Mountain time. Oh Yeah!!

Your letter is perfect! When I was in your situation I ate a lot of sugar free popsicles. Not a lot of "crunch" too them, but at least there was some chewing. Take heart...I am 14 weeks out and those days seem like a distant memory.

Sheila - All the best with your surgery today!

Marie

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
