Hello everyone. I am scheduled to have my first fill this Wednesday at 9:00am. I am so nervous.... I can not even begin to tell you. I have a couple of questions... Should I not eat or drink anything before I go? Is the needle big that they use to do the fill? I am terrified if needles... Thanks in advance for anyones comments. :phanvan

My dr. has me do liquids only the day of my fill, and then for 24 hrs. following it, then another 24 of mushies, and back to regular diet. As for the needle, sad to say, yes mine was big....so I would just say, don't look. I know that sounds like I am being a smart a$$ but I'm not trying to, just realistic. It did not hurt like I expected a needle that size would...so if you just close your eyes, it should be fine. Good Luck to you! As for the diet, he will tell you following what to do, nd just follow his orders, but prior I would do liquid only. It is just easier on your tummy after the fill. You will be fine!!! All of us before you have survived it!!

Had my first fill this morning! Yeah! It is really easy and the worst part was the stupid sting of the numbing medicine.

My fill center says nothing solid to eat 4 hours before, nothing to drink 1 hour before, then liquids for 48 hours and back to normal foods.

I am so excited! Good luck to those about to get a fill... and don't worry.. it is so easy!

OMG!!!I went in and was out in 25 minutes. I closed my eyes and he numbed it and then before I knew it he said OK, I am done. I was in shock... I was totally expecting something more. I would do it again in a heart beat. I have my next fill scheduled for August 17th and I can't wait. I had to drink a bottle of Water before I could leave and he told me to do liquids for 1 week! So to anyone not had a fill yet... its a breeze!

Melissa,

Liquids for a week?! I was gonna do liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 2 days. Now I wonder if I should try doing liquids a bit longer. My doctor told me to do them for the next day.

BTW my fill was today and it was a breeze. The only discomfort I felt was the little prick for the numbing. I didn't even realize she was finished. Heck I didn't even realize she had even started.

My next fill is scheduled 3 months out. May I ask why you have another fill scheduled in a month? I am hoping I can stretch this next fill for four months so I can save a little money. The first 25lbs were without a fill.

Lisa,

I don't know why he said liquids for a week, but I lost 2 more pounds yesterday. So I am down 32#'s. He said it gives your stomach time to adjust around the new fill...??? I don't feel hungry, had coffe this morning and don't really want anything else. He wanted to see me in 4 to 6 weeks, so I just scheduled for another fill and if he thinks I need it I will get it, if not I will come back when I need one. If you have any other questions send me an email, I will be happy to respond! Have a good day.

I had my first fill yesterday. I didn't get any numbing stuff, but the poke was like a little pin prick. I didn't look at the needle, but I did watch the camera screen. She said my port was moving around so they brought in the camera and did it by watching the screen. Really cool. No pain.

I was on Clear Liquids day of, Clear Liquids for 3 days and mushies for 3 days after. It gives the stomach a chance to adjust and the swelling to go down. Some people get tight a couple days later so time will tell.

You aren't hungry? That is great! I am starving 2 - 3 hours after eating. I had a yogurt and that seems to fill me up for 2.5 hours. I am gonna stay on liquids for tomorro to give my stomach a little more time to heal.

BTW I think I have lost too. I weighed myself when I got home this evening and I was 202lbs with clothes on. I usually weigh in the morning with no clothes on. I think as the day goes on you weigh a little more. I cant wait until the morning to check.

Lisa,

I bet you have lost more too. I am going to try and do the liquids thru Sunday. TRY being the key word!!! LOL! I eat alot of cottage cheese, well not alot, but I have it for alot of my meals and I swear it keeps me full longer. Keep in touch. Let me know if you loose anymore in the morning. I do the same thing in the mornings, run downstairs, go to the bathroom, strip off my clothes and then go weigh! LOL!

I had my first fill today. It really didnt hurt at all. Doc put 1 cc in a 4 cc band. I only had to take a couple of sips of Water in the office and that was it. He told me fluids for today only, then soft food tomorrow, then back to regular food. i did see the size of the needle and was a little nervous, but really it was nothing. Good luck to all awaiting their first fill!!

I had my first fill on July 5th and I am doing fine. I didn't to the full liquid for more than 48 hours post fill. I was told that I have a small band and I was filled with 2ccs of a band that only holds 4.5cc. I did get my first sick feeling from over eating. I tried to chew on some chicken and I gagged like I had taken ipecac. I have learned that eating chicken breast requires that I eat it one string at a time.

Melissa,

I weighed this morning and came just a smidgen (made up word) under 200. I am hopeful by Sunday the needle will be noticeably below 200.

Do you eat the cottage cheese plain? I never thought of this. I have been drinking the Campbell's Soup at Hand and yogurt. Cottage cheese might be a welcome change.

Lisa,

I eat it plain or with the sugar free jelly, Walmart has their brand and it is good. I swear some people I know think I am addicted to it... LOL! Make me feel like I am actually eating something, does that make sense?

A smidgen...LOL... is a smidgen, thats the way I look at it! Have a good day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
