smacbeth 0 Posted July 26, 2011 So tomarrow is the big day... Getting really nervous Was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to expect afterwards and any tips to a speedy recovery?
AutumnBlueCarmen 4 Posted July 26, 2011 I haven't had my VSG surgery yet...but have had many surgeries. My advice is take it easy...even if you feel great don't do anything that the doc doesn't approve of. Say like vacuuming after a c-section because you feel all better at 3 weeks out. Take it easy....don't let yourself get over sore...use those pain meds. The worst pain after surgery I had was from becoming too tense because the doc would only give me ibuprofen. Lots of gentle walking to get that gas out. sleep when you are sleepy! Good luck! I hope it is a breeze for you and for me on Friday! ((hugs))
CaliforniaJenn 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Congrats on your big day tomorrow! The thing that really helped me during recovery was my heating pad. I had nerve pain in my shoulder from the gas and it felt good to put my heating pad on my shoulder, my sore tummy, and my back. I just moved it around to whatever was hurting. Also, Gas X dissolvable strips are really great in helping with the gas pains. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great! Update when you can!!
Nancy Rivers 24 Posted July 26, 2011 Congrats! As soon as you are able and the nurses let you, get up and start walking around. That is the best advice I can give for getting rid of the gas and to start feeling better. Make sure you use your pain pump right before getting out of bed as that will make it more tolerable. Get plenty of rest too, but movement is essential.
