So tomarrow is the big day... Getting really nervous

Was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to expect afterwards and any tips to a speedy recovery? :)

I haven't had my VSG surgery yet...but have had many surgeries. My advice is take it easy...even if you feel great don't do anything that the doc doesn't approve of. Say like vacuuming after a c-section because you feel all better at 3 weeks out. :P Take it easy....don't let yourself get over sore...use those pain meds. The worst pain after surgery I had was from becoming too tense because the doc would only give me ibuprofen. Lots of gentle walking to get that gas out. sleep when you are sleepy! Good luck! I hope it is a breeze for you and for me on Friday! :) ((hugs))

Congrats on your big day tomorrow! The thing that really helped me during recovery was my heating pad. I had nerve pain in my shoulder from the gas and it felt good to put my heating pad on my shoulder, my sore tummy, and my back. I just moved it around to whatever was hurting.

Also, Gas X dissolvable strips are really great in helping with the gas pains.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great! Update when you can!! :)

Congrats! As soon as you are able and the nurses let you, get up and start walking around. That is the best advice I can give for getting rid of the gas and to start feeling better. Make sure you use your pain pump right before getting out of bed as that will make it more tolerable. Get plenty of rest too, but movement is essential.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
