Low carb/no carb alternative to fav foods?

Recommended Posts

Holy crap! I have been looking for months and haven't heard of almost any of the suggestions! Looks like I have alot of taste testing to do in the near future because, as I said b4, even if I don't eat any of it post-op my family still likes it so I will still have to make it. I actually think it would be nice to get the carb monster off my back. I have been wondering lately how I will get my Protein in if I am eating pastas and whatnot very often. I guess time will tell what happens with my tastes are post-op.

No I haven't heard of either one. The cauliflower crust and zucchini Pasta (other post) have me intrigued though, does that count as a serving of vegetables ? I will have to check those out. DH is gonna  when I tell him we are trying pizza crust and Pasta made of vegetables .

I would just make the pizza and see what he says first. Then say guess what its made with? I have never heard of zucchini pasta I will have to look it up in the stores.

Zucchini Pasta has saved my life!!! I bought a julienne peeler and went to town. I now eat zucchini every other day!! Now, I will say that the dark zucchini as been better tolerated than the light. The light makes me very, very gassy and want to vomit.

Keep in mind that post surgery you're not going to be able to eat very much, so when you're looking at the serving size and how many carbs are in one serving just remember that you're very likely not going to be eating anywhere close to a whole serving.

That said, I love all the ideas for low carb alternative. For pizza maybe try the Thomas light multigrain english muffins (100 calories, 8 grams of Fiber, and 5 grams of Protein for one whole english muffin) or whole wheat bagel thins (100 calories, 5 grams of Fiber, and 6 grams of Protein for each thin).

Well, ya know, there's no "have to" about making certain foods for your family. I get rather feisty when I hear women say things like this, you're not their slave - they can eat what you serve them and like it! Besides, they should be encouraged to support you by helping to create a nutritious environment for you, and really everyone can benefit from cutting out high glycemic carbs.

Well yeah, a healthy diet all around is good but I don't want them to feel deprived of the foods they love just cause mommy and wifey can't control her weight. DH and my oldest are rail thin, they could stand to gain a few. My youngest I may have more of an issue with weight wise because he has been an eater since day 1 (the first 6 weeks of his life I sat in a chair nursing my non-stop) and he is built like I am. I worry he will take after me in all the worst ways so his diet I watch much closer, but even him until his weight IS going to be a problem for him I am not going to treat him like he needs to be on a diet and can't have the foods he loves. I feel like anything is ok in moderation, even less healthy stuff.

I bought some Dreamfields and they worked for me like regular Pasta and the appealing thing to me is that you can buy them most anywhere at a regular price. I as so looking forward some real spaghetti and sadly, even at 8 months Noodles do not work for my sleeve, no rice, no breads. It is like instant FULL for me and uncomfortable!

No I made the cauliflower pizza and that gave me the italian sauce fix I so badly desired!

As far as pizza goes, I make a crustless pizza. Even my husband and 3 yr-old like it! You'll use a roasting pan, pour in Tomato sauce, hamburger meat, pepperroni, black olives and literally a whole bag of any white cheese. Bake in the over until the cheese is good and melted and side are bubbling. Let it set for 5 minutes and enjoy. Yes, it will be a little running, but it is still super yummy

Instead of Pasta, try putting spagetti sauce on spagetti squash. Cut the squash in half, remove seeds, rub with olive oil and spices and roast in the oven until tender. When cooked, shred with a fork. Also a good noodle replacement in Soups.< /p>

When the kids have pizza I have wings or just the toppings off the pizza

When the kids have spagetti I have just the meat with lots of melty cheese on top

When the kids have sandwhiches I have the meat and cheese rolled up around some bacon

When the kids have Cereal I have bacon and eggs or a protien shake

Last night we had shrimp linguine and I had lots of shrimp in butter

I love salads with plenty of dressing and chicken and bacon

String cheese with a cracker or two

Organic (they taste better) strawberries for desert

Slim jims for Snacks

Hamburgers with no or 1 part of the bun

Soups and chilis

Baby bell cheeses

You aren't depriving your family when you cook low carb, they dont NEED the carbs, they are useless for the most part. Compare nut info for whole wheat Pasta vs reg Pasta. They are virtually the same. The only good carbs are going to be from fruits.

If you are anything like me what you don't want to deprive your family of is taste treats like Doritos or Ice cream or sugar cereals. The kinds with no nutritional info and the kind that tempt us to dip our hands into as we pass out of the kitchen.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
