In December I had a total Hysterectomy, I'm now waiting for my surgeon to schedule my sleeve. The question I have is, "Will I lose weight fast or slower than someone who's not going through menopause?" Will the sleeve work for me? Is anyone out there going through menopause finding iit easy to lose weight or hard with the sleeve?

Hi, I am 11 months out and post and I don't think it affected my weight loss I averaged around 10 lbs a month and got to goal around 8 months out. I think the biggest difference is that we have less fat pads so we look skinny in some areas.

Hi! I'm not exactly menopausal, but due to defective ovaries I've never had a period. Doctors call it primary amenorrhea rather than the more common secondary amenorrhea. It doesn't seem to have any effect at all on my weight loss.

I'm several years post menopausal and my weight, though coming off rather slowly(10-12 lbs a month) is steadily going down . I've incorporated exercise as soon as my surgeon gave the go ahead, so that has caused my inches to drop as well. I actually look thinner than what the scale says. ????swimming has been the best exercise and I haven't missed exercising except for a couple of really rainy days since May. I think the best news is that the menopause doesn't necessarily prevent weight loss but adjust your expectations- it hasn't been fast.

I was about a year post menopausal when I had the sleeve. Didn't seem to slow me down. I lost all my excess weight and more in a year. Good chunk of it by six months out.

I haven't had a period since January and I'm not sexually active. The professional medical opinion is that I am going through early onset menopause (38 years old) and the sleeve was the cause of it. Well, it was more or less my hormones going haywire from losing 100 pounds in 5 months post surgery.

What symptoms do most people experience during menopause? Of course, my moods are up and down, but that may be happening for a variety of other reasons. I've been maintaining goal weight for a few months now and my period should have come back by now if weight loss was the primary reason for its absence.

I thought I had heard of people suddenly becoming fertile after sleeving not the other way around. I was kind of expecting a surge of hormones. I had taken different hormones in the past and my doctor said to give the sleeve a chance before I start supplementing again and not just because of the blood clot thing.

I had very very few symptoms other than lack of a period. A couple of hot flashes a couple of times a month for maybe six months and that's basically it.

My on/gyn said they could run a test of some sort to determine if it really was menopause (I was pretty early, like 43) and I said would you do anything differently based on those results? She said no so I said why bother (I've had a tubal ligation so no pregnancy issues).

So there is some kind of test (hormonal) to see if it's truly menopause. You should ask about it!

I had radical hysterectomy 10 years ago. I was 49/41 at the time. Everything was removed including lymph nodes. I went into full blown menopause immediately. I still managed to lose over 100 lbs in a year. I keep my calories low, my Protein at 100 grams daily & exercise regularly.

ETA: I also take medicine that actually slows my metabolism. One of the reasons why I exercise 5 - 6 days a week is to counteract that.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
