what do you use to make protein shakes!

Recommended Posts

I sorta think blenders are a pain to clean properly... but I like their ice crushing ability.

What do you think is the most convenient, easy to clean, handiest way of mixing Protein?

I never really liked using a shaker since not all mix that well (although it has been years since I tried this).

I use a plastic shaker that I got from GNC. It has a metal wire ball inside that helps shake up the liquid and the powder. It works really well. Sometimes when I want to add crushed ice I will use my blender, but otherwise it is the plastic shaker, and it rinses out really easily, which is important, 'cause I am on 4 shakes a day!!!!

I really like my blender because I use a lot of crushed ice in my shakes. It also works well for adding hot broth to the Protein powder i've dissolved in some cool Water - no lumps. Easy to clean; when i empty the shake I rinse the blender and then add Water and a few drops of dish soap and blend, rinse and dry.

If you're in the market for a personal/travel sized blender, check out the Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender. They have them in most Wal-Mart's right now for the college crowd for only $12. Amazing reviews and they are easy to clean. Also double as a travel cup.

I use pre mixed shakes for the most part. Premier protien shakes from costco. When did make them at home I used the Bullet. very easy to clean compared to a blender and takes up much less space and I can drink from the same cup I mix in! Crushes ice and frozen fruit with ease!

I have a Kitchen Aid mini food processor that my wife picked up at Target for $40. It is super easy to clean, it chops up the ice and really makes my Protein Shake taste like a milk shake. Only problem was that it only came in red at our Target so my wife decided to paint our kitchen (it has been decorated with John Deere and painted bright green and yellow for years!) to better coordinate with the food processor!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
