Need Advice: Stomach Divot!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery a week ago tomorrow and I'm feeling really well. However, -- okay, here's a wierd one -- there's a huge divot right where the largest incision was. It's acout 2" in diameter and 1" deep. It shows up when I'm sitting or standing and disappears when I'm lying flat. My abdomen also pooches out above the divot. I'm going to call my surgeon today, but does anyone know if this is normal? Will it go away?? Thanks!

I had the same thing!! It was like a huge crater and was weird. I am 11 weeks out today and mine is gone. I don't know when it went away, but it is gone.

Yup it's normal. I had one too. There was another posting where about 10 people said the same. One woman said her doctor told her it is from internal stitching they did when removing the stomach (I'm sure I'm not quoting her exactly). Anyway, it does go away. I'm about 8 weeks out and mine is gone completely.

I have a divot where my drain was. The doctor said mine wasn't as bad as most and it will go away as I lose weight.

I had this too. Disappeared after a couple of months. I was convinced it was a divot from where the missing piece of stomach had been!

Yep, totally normal. I have one too and was sleeved on 7/12. My surgeon said it is where the internal stitches were on the incision from which they removed the part of stomach. He said it would go away.

yup...its where they did a stitch (usually a vicral) it dissolves, I had one too. I looked at my doc and was like, "seriously...did ya tie that knot way to tight??" (I was an OR nurse...lol) He said it would go away...and its almost gone. Not completely. I have lost 60 lbs andf the belly pudge is still lopsided. In the end I'm sure it will shrink and look better. Thats why our docs are general surgeons, not plastic surgeons...lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
