KMP85 11 Posted July 25, 2011 Hi All, When I was researching the types of WLS surgery to have I wanted the lapband for all the reasons: could be removed, adjustable and could be released if I got pregnant. Well I requested the information about it and then I decided to see what my potential surgeon said. Well I went to my surgeons office for the consult and he went over all the procedures with me. He said we have three types I like to do: gastric banding, Route en Y and the sleeve. He explained all the potential complications, results etc.. My Mother was there with me and she honestly asked the doctor which one he would recommend. He said hands down the sleeve since it mixes the best of both worlds. He then said he is doing more and more revisions of the lapband. I was so happy that I chose the sleeve! Surgery should be soon!
wishes 125 Posted July 25, 2011 That's awesome. I was initially the same way until my bariatric nurse at UHC recommended the sleeve to me and told me the exact same thing about the band. Revisions keep becoming more and more common, and as I did research.... I realized this was a surgery I could live the rest of my life with. Good luck on your journey! Tiffykins 673 Posted July 25, 2011 Kiss that surgeon ! ! ! You'll love the sleeve, and I'm 6 months pregnant, over 2 years out with VSG and THRIVING and so is Tatum so don't worry about having babies, it's very doable and actually pretty easy with VSG to eat normal, not puke, and have a great pregnancy! ! ! KristeyK 3 Posted July 25, 2011 ITA! Kiss your surgeon and thank your mom for asking. I was dumb enough to not listen to my surgeon. Fast forward 3.5 years, and I am getting this stupid band OUT! WOOHOO!!!
kellyw74 258 Posted July 25, 2011 I wanted to band too. My surgeon said NO WAY!! He told me of all of the complications with the band and that within a year it would be in my throat!! I am so happy that he was honest and did not do it and did the sleeve!! I LOVE MY SLEEVE and read horror stories aboutt he band! Kelly
Rev Me Up! 75 Posted July 27, 2011 The band SUCKS so badly - I am so happy your doctor made that recommendation. You'll be happy with your choice. The recovery isn't easy, but life is so much better after that. Good luck!
