Had the surgery last night at 6pm. Have had the hiccups off and on all day today. The last spell lasted 2 hours. Is VERY painful. I was doing fine with no pain meds until the hiccups started. I asked the doctor about it when he came in to discharge me and he just said to take the Lortab. Well, it doesn't hurt as much, but the hiccups are very annoying and I can't take Lortab forever. Anybody else have this problem?

I get the hiccups at least 2-3 times a day and I will be 11 weeks on Monday!

They are annoying, I don't know what is up with them, but really wish they would stop!!

I only get hiccups here and there, usually when I eat too fast or too much. They can last 30 minutes or so and it's annoying. But I'll take it compared to spending the rest of my life huge.

They gave me levosin (hope I spelled that right) for spasms. I got the hiccups alot at first esp if I was too "full". It got better.

I get them randomly i believe when I am full as well, not with every meal though. It drives my husband crazy but there is nothing I can do about it. Even before surgery I probably got them more than the average person.

I have alot of random hiccup/burp sounds when eating or drinking. But true hiccups I've only had once and it lastest what seemed like forever. Held my breath a few times and they finally stopped.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
