Do you have a plan from your doctor? You might want to ask the nutritionist... my plan calls for NO beef and NO shellfish until 5 months.

After week 6 for me. I buy the 96/4 ground beef at Walmart and grill about 4 pattys out of a 1 lb package. Each half patty (the most that I can eat) is about 12 grams Protein, 75 calories, and 2 grams of fat. I pair it with sliced tomatoes and pickles to help it go down a little better.

Beef is harder to digest than anything else (so says my nutritionist) - so I would wait until you are easily handling other meats (chicken, fish, etc) until I tried it. For me, when I eat beef, it needs to be cooked with moisture. I prefer meat loaf or pot roast to a dry hamburger patty.

Wow! Wouldn't it be nice if there was a "standard" diet for us that all doctors used?

Such wide variations from doc to doc.

I love to buy really good hamburger meat from my butcher and make my famous meat loaf plus some patties out of the meatloaf mixture. The meat is so tender and delicious but my doc says not until 8 weeks out.

I've heard others on here say they ate meatloaf in the mushy phase...

I don't think would push it though. Beef is hard to digest.

Good luck!

At my 3 wk mark when I can eat soft foods we can have ground beef or turkey. In fact my nut encouraged it.

Beef is the easiest for me to digest. I'm at 6 weeks out. chicken is still a no go, but beef is great! So don't be afraid to try it!

I ate a few bites of hamburger steak (hamburger patty with brown gravy), very soft texture, a few weeks after surgery and loved it. I did follow my nutritionist's plan--I think it was at 4 weeks out or so. Come to think of it, I probably want to try that again--it was delicious and very comfortable to eat, plus good Protein.< /p>

One more comment about eating beef - I tried it once early on in the solids phase - not cooked very moist - and had major discomfort the evening I ate it, through the night, and the next day. So I didn't touch beef again for weeks - happily living on chicken, turkey, fish and seafood. Well at three months, I was anemic big time. So I had to double the Iron supplements and was told to START EATING RED meat. So, whenever your doctor / NUT thinks is the "right" time - start eating it. It (red meat) is the easiest way to up your iron levels by eating.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
