I just happen to stumble on this site while i was looking at the obesityhelp.com sight, and I am glad I did. It is so nice to find a sight that everyone has the lapband surgery. I have a question tho, I have just had a PE (bloodclot in the Lung) on May 26, 2006, and wanted to know if there was anyone else that has had this complication and the surgery or not? I go to my Dr. seminar tommorow night and am looking forward to learning more about this problem.

I have had a Cardiologist, a Pulminologist and my regular doctor tell me that this surgery is something I should be looking into. The Cardiologist and the Pulminologist both came in to see me while I was in the hospital and told my family if I did not get the weight off I would never see my son graduate, he is only 4 years old.

I am on Cumadin for the PE and my levels are where they should be  .

But I am scared along with my family, my wife, brother and mother support me in this but my father and step mother don't. I know I am 38 almost 39 and it would help if I had everyones support on this.

Thank you for listening,

Bigdog :help:

Hi Bigdog, Welcome!

I'm sorry, I dont know what PE is, but as far as your dad being unsupportive, I'm sorry. He probably doesn't understand what you are going through, and how safe the band is. You can try to educate him, but if he doesn't come 'round, just remember, its your body and your life! I wish you the best of luck with whatever decision you make.

Hi There and Welcome!

I had clots in both my lungs and also am on warfarin for life. I chose the this surgery over RNY basically because the risks are less, but now I am really glad i chose this way. This is a less invasive surgery - go off thinners for a week before and do the shots of lovenox for a few days after till the blood thinners start working again and expect to have INRs at least weekly for awhile. The new way of eatting and the different foods will more then likely screw with the INR results for awhile. I had surgery in Feb and after my test at the end of June I am finally able to go back to testing 1x a month instead of weekly, then biweekly as i was doing. Eatting high Protein can increase your need for warfarin as can eatting lots of green vegis and especially broccoli- cut the amounts down and the INR results go way up. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
