Recommended Posts

I had a terrible time post op! I stayed 3 nights in the hospital. I also had that what in the world did I do moment in the hospital and cried my eyes out. The first 13 days were horrible. On day 14 I felt so much better. I am now almost 11 months out and at goal and living life to the fullest, and feeling AWESOME! I WOULD DO IT AGAIN in a SECOND!

Take one day at a time. I promise it gets better with each new day :)

unjury chicken Soup is a huge help to me- you do need the hot Water to be 130 degrees or lower to avoid clumping but that is nice and warm. I add 12-16 ounces of Water as it is a bit salty wit only 8 ounces but it is very comforting and is 21 grams of Protein in a serving. The extra water counts to your liquids so this helps too. There are tons of different dry powders too that you can mix in creative ways to help get more Protein in.

I still, eleven weeks out, set my phone timer to remind me to drink. It is so easy to fall behind otherwise. In doing that I am now able to drink three liters a day.

I know everyone says it but it gets better and better! I have lost 55 pounds as of today and I feel fabulous.

How often do you have your alarm going off to remind you to drink? I need to do that too. Also, any great ways to get my 800 calories and my 50 grams of Protein in? I didn't get it in today. Today was my first full day at home and I need to do better tomorrow. Would love some advices on things to buy/eat.

Yes, please keep us informed on your progress. You'll be feeling better soon. Get some poweraide or gatoraide. You can get sugar free but if you aren't drinking much, the extra calories aren't going to make that much difference.

K20 Protein Water is good too if you can't tolerate Protein drinks yet.

This will be my 3rd night in the hospital and should've only stayed 1 night. I can't keep anything down cause I have so much swelling and it just comes up like foam. This is by far the worst thing I've ever done.

Sorry you're having such a rough time!

You WILL feel better. I spent a week in the hospital, so I know.

A few weeks… maybe a month or two from now… you will forget what it was like to be stuck in the hospital and you will feel good about the surgery. A few weeks of suffering will seem worth it for a better, healthier, longer life.

Oh honey! It gets so much better than this!!! I was regretting it the first few days as well, but once I was able to get some broth down (which was extremely healing for me) you will feel so much better. Once you get home, have a nice hot shower, sip some broth, put your own pajamas on and get into your own bed you will feel worlds better. Six months later when you look in the mirror and you feel so much better you will tell everyone of your friends who has struggled with their weight to do it too!

Oh, I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. I was sleeved on Tues. and came home yesterday. I have had some really bad times too. I am really struggling with being able to drink enough. I hope they figure out what is going on and can take care of it, so you can get home. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

You can't drink alot right now. 20oz would be doing good. It is rough sipping a 1oz cup every 15 minutes. So sip what your stomach will let you. As it heals you will sip more.

Good luck

the first couple of weeks, don't stress too much on getting the Protein in, concentrate more on Fluid. The first week I was lucky if I got 16-20 oz in, just do the best you can. When your stomach and body heals you will be able to take in much more.

I'm fine in that sense. Just sick of drinking fluids instead of eating.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
