im seriously regretting this

Recommended Posts

I see you have gotten a lot of good advice! I think most of us went through our periods of regret, however, from what I can tell, no one regrets it for too long once the worst is over, and for you it is probably going to end soon. I wish I had stayed in the hospital an extra day or two because at home, I was afraid every little sensation meant something was wrong. I think you are smart to stay longer. When you get home, you will start to feel better every day. You may be bloated, water-logged, and move like a slug, but just hang in there and keep walking. Taking slow deep breaths help to push the gas out and if you can drink an ounce every 15 mins or so you can stay hydrated. I found that I couldn't stand the taste of anything sweet, but I could tolerate the juice from pinto Beans, chicken broth etc. Also, for me, egg drop Soup from a neighborhood restaurant saved me. I strained it for the first week but could tolerate the soft egg bits the next week, (but no onions). The same for Miso soup. The tofu was soft and comforting, but I strained out the onions and seaweed. They sell it in packages at grocery stores. So good luck and hang in there sleeve sista!

I'm so sorry you're struggling right now. As much as I read and read and read before surgery, I was not prepared to deal with eveyrthing that went along with the first few days. I only spent one night in the hospital, and I was soooo ready to get home. I know you must be so sick of that hospital bed, and you just want to get home. Things will start to improve soon for you, I'm sure of it! For me, things really, really began to improve on day 5. Now at day 11 post op, I could not be more thrilled with my sleeve! Hang in there! I don't know if you're a praying person, but as soon as I read your post I said a prayer for you. Your life will get better in so many ways! You won't even believe it. I'm off blood pressure medicine, and I'm sleeping great without my cpap already! Be strong and know that everyone here is thinking of you!!

I absolutely do believe in prayers and I know that's what helped me. My family and church family were praying for me every day. Just to hear all of u say it gets better day by day gives me hope. I'm on my way home right now and should be there in about 2 hrs. Still just trying to keep the liquids down so that I don't get dehydrated. I will keep posting about my weeks ahead. Thanks again so much.

Glad you are going home - that will help too. Focus on hydration and don't worry about Protein yet - it will come. Keep sipping. If one type of liquid doesn't seem to want to go down, then try a different one or a different temperature. It will get better. :)

I was sleeved July 20 (3 days ago) and I have been a constant state of regret. I was discharged from the hospital in just over 24 hours, which I think was waaaay to soon. I keep saying what have I done to myself, so I can certainly sympathize. I have a really hard time even getting Water down and im still in alot of pain. I feel like all the research I did, didnt adequately prepare me for just how difficult this would be. I will keep you in my thoughts and hopefully it really will get better as everyone keeps saying.

I am only 4 days post op and it's rough but I do see a light at the end of the tunnel. I had to be in the hospital for 3 days. I can't even imagine only spending 1 day in the hospital. Any words of wisdom on how to get 800 cal and 50 Protein in. That's where I'm struggling now. I tried boiling milk, hot chocalate and some whey protein but it got all clumpy and I can't really drink it. Any advise on easier things to eat/drink?

Hi!

First congratulations on the operation. I am 19 days post op and I can assure you, you will stop regretting it very soon. I also had a very hard time the 1st week, but now I'm as good as new! There is a light at the end of the tunnel believe me!

The easiest thing for me to eat has definitely been Soups. I am still on liquids for another five days. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of tomato.. A good source of Protein is cream cheese or soft yellow cheese, and also fruit yoghurts, but warm liquids have been easier for me to take.

If you can't manage to swallow them at this point, don't worry about it, it will get better. For now the main thing is to stay hydrated.

God luck. I hope you get better soon.

I found a Protein that can be mixed with hot Water without clumping. Tastes like hot chocolate but has 20 grams of protein :) It's available on fitnessroad.com and it's called biotransitions protein support http://www.fitnessroad.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.v5.tpl&product_id=3&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=18

This will be my 3rd night in the hospital and should've only stayed 1 night. I can't keep anything down cause I have so much swelling and it just comes up like foam. This is by far the worst thing I've ever done.

I am soo so sorry to here you are feeling bad. What kind of medication did they give you? I had a qball which dripped lidocaine on the stomach cut for the 1st week. It was better for my healing than giving pain medication they said and I feel they were right cause all kinds of smells that shouldn't bother you made me sick at 1st. Get up and walk as much as possible it really does help you feel better just don't go during the nurses dinner time or they will be cleaning up after your every step...lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
