I was in the process of getting ready for lapband surgery earlier this year at Shawnee Msn Hosp by Dr Stanley Hoehn. Then Medicare made their ruling and they are my primary insurance. Everyone at that office was very nice.

I'm being banded in Monterrey by Dr. Rumbaut on 8-17 - Hooray!!! He refers to Dr. Steven Malley for follow-up and fills and are very pleased with him. I think he's in Lenexa or at least on the Kansas side somewhere. I don't know him yet but understand from postings I've read that he's very kind and does an excellent job.

I'm sure if you inquired specifically about him on this site you could get some information. Good luck with your search and your surgery!

There is a facility in Topeka... TallGrass. it is a bit far but the price is comparible to Mexico, I've decided to forgo Mexico and start the process there as I will be a self pay. And at least if god forbid there are any problems, it is somewhat local, and I'm not out $400-500 in airfare. There are four physicians working there, all of which seem pretty good. Matter of fact I believe it was Fox4 that did the initial newscast on it that Peaked my interest.

Good Luck!

If you are insured... Dr. Hoehn is super nice, and his staff is just awesome. he is in the Shawnee Mission area. I have heard good things about Dr. Malley too.

I was banded by Dr. Hoehn at SMMC. There are threads for KS and MO, you may want to ask your question there, you'll probably get a more focused audience.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
