Hi Folks! I'm new here!

I'm Tony. I'm 48 yrs old, weigh 342 pounds, have a BMI of 52, and a bunch of comorbidities including diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, et al. I've decided to get the Vertical Sleeve done, and have undergone most all of the steps my surgeon requires. All I'm waiting on is my cardiac clearance, and away we go!

I'm scheduled for August 29th, with Dr. Eckstein in Hollywood, Florida. I'm excited, and I'm also a bit nervous. I know this will prolly swap ends as time goes by *more nervous than excited lol), but I think that's normal. I do physical work, so I'm hoping that I'm not out too long. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome, Tony!! I would think it depends on exactly how physical your job is, and how well you heal. I hear that most people take a week off, some only a couple of days if they can't take more and their job is pretty sedentary. I've also heard people say that they are a lot more tired and sore than they thought were going to be afterwards. How much time are you 'allowed' to take from work? I would ask your surgeon what he thinks - he would know. But I would think at LEAST two weeks if you have a very physical jog/lots of lifting, etc. Maybe tell your employer two week, then if you feel better/heal fast and you have your doctor's release, you could go back earlier than planned?

Thanks folks! Btw, I'm a male. Forgot to say that in my post lol.

I asked the doc about time off, he's thinking 2 weeks also. I just wondered what the realities were.

Woooo, I finally got a date! August 29th, we go!! I'm seeing my Cardiologist Wed., and my Diabetes doc next week.

Only one thing....my bloodwork showed I had a stomach infection! I'm curious as to how that showed up in the bloodwork. I didn't get a good answer from my surgeon either, maybe I should have pressed him on it. I got a 2 week script of antibiotics though. I really didn't have any idea anything was wrong. Since I'm on Metformin for the diabetes, I almost always have the runs.

I'm having a bit of second thoughts, but I know this is something that I have to do if I want to continue living. I'm trying to work into the preop diet too, I'm replacing one meal a day with a shake. This is gonna be the part that I dread the most....the all liquid diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
