Antimicobial Skin Cleaner

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that many people get infections after they go home. I have a Dr in the family and he sugested I get a antiseptic/ antimicrobial skin cleaner ( he gave a brand name, can we tell brand names here?) and to use it a couple of days before surgery on any areas where I will be opened. ie ; blood work, iv, surgery area. I haven't seen this on any of the 'what to do before surgery conversations', so that leaves me with questions.

1) Is this common knowlege so it doesn't need to be spoke of?

2) Has anyone used it, Did said person get an infection?

If bringing this up helps people not to get infections I feel we should spread the word, but if the product doesn't help, I would like to know that as well.

I use Hibiclens (sp) and love it. even after I was in the clear. It comes in a blue bottle. A little expensive but good.

That was the name I was given as well, and you didn't get any infections?

I was told by my surgeon to use wound wash. It is just a saline based antibacterial spray. It is not expensive and works great. I had no issues with infections.

My doctor gave me a perscription for Hibiclens, but I think it's an OTC. I guess his perscription was just to let me know to purchase and use it before my surgery. I thought this was common practice.

My doctor told me to just use a antibacterial body wash. I used Dial and had no problems.

Yes was told pre op to soap up with Hibicleanse (sp??) from head to feet start with head....and let it sit 10 min and then rinse.....was to do it once the night before and once the morning of surgery. She also said to use a different wash cloth for head to stomach....and butt to feet different one (so as not to cross contaminate) forgot all about it until you asked.

I was never told to do an anti-microbial. Before they took me back for surgery, the nurse in pre-op did disinfect my stomach with an anti-microbial. The surgeon then put a "glue" over each incision and didn't mention that I had to use anything special on them. I'm now 9 days post-op and have had no problems with infections.

My doctor sent me home after my pre-op appt with a silver packed (dont know name) but super spongy to was my entire body with the night before surgery- concentrating more on belly area. And then not to use anything on body after that- deodorant, perfume, powder NOTHING.

When I went in for my preop labwork, they gave me a bottle of hibiclens, and told me to wash with it the night before and the morning of surgery. I'm prone to skin infections, so I was still concerned. I'm a week and 1 day out, and my incisions are healing perfectly! I didn't use any cloths I just rubbed it on for a couple of minutes with the Water off, then rinsed.

I didn't know about the different wash cloths. Thanks for all the inputs, I'm really learning alot.

Ugh! I was given that uuber prep-soap crap and I had a severe allergic reaction to it. I used it the day before and day of surgery. The day after surgery I developed a little rash on my belly that spread like wildfire to any place that the stupid (yes, I said stupid...LOL) soap touched my body. It was awful and I ended up being off work another week because of it. I don't remember the name off the top of my head but it was in a little bottle. A little evil bottle...

I started laughing at," a little evil bottle", I am sorry that happened to you. I think it might be wise if I do a test area to see for allergic reation. Im 2 months till surgery,so anything should heal if I rash out. If it doesn't work I could try the dial or the spray mentioned above. Thanks

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
