Antimicobial Skin Cleaner

Recommended Posts

I started laughing at," a little evil bottle", I am sorry that happened to you. I think it might be wise if I do a test area to see for allergic reation. Im 2 months till surgery,so anything should heal if I rash out. If it doesn't work I could try the dial or the spray mentioned above. Thanks

My pre-op nurse said that even though the scrub is "recommended" for more than two days, she said I could just use it the day before and the day of surgery. Both of my parents are in healthcare and they said surgeons prescribe it as a precaution these days but it isn't necessary because they still scrub you down before surgery anyway. It will dry your skin out so if you have sensitive skin you may get a reaction.

Good Question!!!

I forgot about this step completely. At pre-op I was given a bottle of soap (greenish blue bottle with brown liquid soap inside). I was given directions to wash the night before and the morning of surgery (just the stomach area). It was no big deal and I had no post surgery infections. I didnt have staples or stitches I had dermabond.

I am sure lots of pre-op ers are going to be glad you asked this question.

Good Luck on your journey!

Before my husband had his vasectomy he was supposed to wash his 'area' with Dial for 2-3 days prior. None of my pre-op instructions say anything about prior cleansing but I still need to read through the packet completely.

It was also recommended for me as well to get anti-bacterial soap and wash by belly with it for the few days pre-op. I really have a problem with this stuff as I think it PROMOTES the formation of antibacterial resistant bacteria. Basically you kill 99% of the bugs and the 1% that are left reproduce and inherit the ability of the resistance, and so the cycle goes. I also have to wonder what benefit this has since you typically wash the last time hours before surgery and then put on your relatively germy clothes and sit around a while getting sweaty and providing a good environment to reproduce MORE of the resistant bacteria. Just my 2 cents.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
