Now that everything is on track with financing the sleeve I'm begining to have doubts about the surgery is it normal? I'm thinking about what if I went through all that and don't lose the weight or what if I gained it back. I'm also wondering how am I gonna feel when I go out with family or friends and everybody is eating there foods and enjoying it and there I am eating a bite or 2 and get full. It's too bad I don't think dr Almanza offer counseling but I don't know if I'm mentally prepared for this drastic change. Did any of you had this kind of thoughts before or after the surgery?

I've had some of those thoughts but honestly, when I browse these forums and see all the successful HUGE weight loss I realize that as one of my weight watchers buddies used to say - NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS. I have all the confidence in the world that I will be able to say that with 100% certainty in about 1 year when I'm at or close to target.

Some other posters on here have said that their sleeve is not a magic quick-fix but a tool to help them with the Portion Control and restriction they so desperately needed. This is me to a "T" - not an emotional eater, not eating due to stress or other issues, but just eating TOO MUCH and not healthy enough.

I know that after the first couple difficult months (or maybe 6 difficult months?) of liquids, mushies, etc. I will be able to go to a work function and have a taste of this or that, or enjoy a glass of wine or bite of dessert . . . and I'm OK with that. I've thought about Thanksgiving and only being 3 months post-op, and realized that if I can have a couple oz of turkey with some gravy, a dab of stuffing and/or mashed potatoes, and then a few bites of my husband's pie - it will be OK! In fact, better than OK because my Thanksgiving leftovers will last 2 weeks! :)

If you're not mentally ready, even if your surgeon doesn't require a psych eval or counseling you can seek help yourself. If your insurance doesn't cover counseling contact a local mental health clinic and see if they have any 'sliding-scale' services. But don't go into surgery without a positive mindset, because my guess is that people who aren't 100% certain might be more apt to not follow post-op guidelines and subsequently risk complications.

Good luck to you!

Yes it is normal because you are changing your life. You are at a fork in the road. One leads to weight loss & a new life. The other has you going down a path of pain & suffering & a slow death.

Wishing you well.

This is completely normal. And as far as eating out with friends and family, you will learn to love the company and conversation and it not all being about the food.

Good luck sweetie, you are almost there.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
