Martie 0 Posted July 21, 2011 Which Acid Reducers did your doctor recommend. My Dr. said that I should take either Previcid or Prilosic. However they only come in capsules over the counter and I am supposed only have either liquids or tablets I can crush. Any suggestions.
Texasmom65 23 Posted July 21, 2011 My doc gave me a prescription for Pepcid 20 mg. It's a tablet and I just take it whole. I don't have any problems with taking pills. Also I he has me taking it twice a day. So once in the AM and once before I go to bed.

I took them before my sleeve and started taking them again about 3 days after surgery.
Tiffykins 673 Posted July 21, 2011 The generic Prilosec comes in tablets, if it's a capsule, you can open it up and mix it with applesauce to get it down. Do not crush the balls. Those little balls in there are what makes the drug long-lasting and slow-release. Remember, do not eat for a minimum of 60 minutes after taking Prilosec, and with PRevacid, I believe it's 30-60 minutes wait before eating.
Penpen 28 Posted July 22, 2011 I was prescribed Nexuim granules. You mix it with one teaspoon of Water, stir, then wait about 3-4 minutes. It turns to a gel that looks like snot. I know, gross! Due to that fact, I can't handle the texture. So I mix it with about 2 oz. of grape juice after it has gelled. It makes the texture bearable. I'm about to have to change to something else because 30 days worth was $60 with insurance. Ouch!
Rev Me Up! 75 Posted July 22, 2011 I just switched to generic Omeprazole and it comes in a very small tablet - it would be easy to swallow or you could crush it. I get it at Walgreens or any other drug store.
Chicadee 10 Posted July 23, 2011 I am taking the Prilosec OTC and even though the caplet is slightly larger than a tic tac I still swallow it just fine. My Dr told me it was ok to take pills no bigger than a tic tac.
Martie 0 Posted July 23, 2011 Thanks, my Dr. says I have to take pills that are either chewable, or i have to crush them. I did find some chewable Generic Acid reducers at Walmart. So hopefully this will help.
