3 days post op and i'm starving

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I had my sleeve done on Monday and I am starving. I've started on the Protein shakes and drinking Water, Crystal light. But i can't seem to fill full. I am hoping this will pass with time. I thought i would not have that hunger feeling after the surgery. Any ideas and how to fill full.

Maybe make your Protein Shakes a little bit thicker. But don't over do it. Just keep sipping all day long. Have you tried any broth yet? or a cream of chicken Soup, if you are allowed that?

are you taking an acid reducer? Most of us are sent home with a script for one after surgery. I am supposed to take one for at least 90 days. That could be the issue if you aren't taking one.

I agree w/Chicadee! But you also might wanna really up your H2O. Its probably another feeling besides hunger?

I have not had my surgery yet, but I have heard over and over that hunger after surgery can be totally related to acid and that the prescription inhibitors are very important. Check out this link from a very well-known surgeon in Mexico about this exact thing. http://www.youtube.com/user/Endobariatric?feature=chclk#p/a/DCC7DC6C03E9469B/1/ndkZudte6J0 Hope it helps and good luck!

Hi Martie,

I am 15 days post-op and I know exactly how you feel. I just wanna tell you, as soon as I was allowed milk and yoghurt, it became much easier. Also for some reason, yesterday and today, my hunger seems to have vanished on its own. Maybe it just takes time, because the 1st week I was constantly starving. What used to leave me feeling full (for a short while) was the Soups.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Martie,

My sleeve was done on Tuesday, July 19th and I'm feeling the same!! I thought hunger would be a thing of the past! But the more I've read it sounds like it may be related to acid - and my surgeon did prescribe Prevacid for me to take - 30mg twice a day to start when I got home from the hospital. Oddly enough I never had any acid reflux issues or problems before but I understand getting sleeved can make that happen. So let's trust in the what the other folks have said here and hope this goes away in due time and we'll truly be 'hunger free' soon! Best of luck to you!

Fella

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
