Nohemi 0 Posted July 21, 2011 Hello all!! I have been roaming around the forum for a while now ,but have not had the courage to introduce myself... My name is nohemi and i'm 25 years old.. i was sleeved June 28th, 2011. Mother of a beautiful 2 year old baby boy and a wife to the best husband life could have given me! I decided to make a life change by having Bariatric surgery. That has been the best decision i have made. With 23 pounds gone in 3weeks and 2 days post-op i could not be any happier! I have read alot of post and they helped me dicide for the sleeve. I think its a good fit for me. At the moment i am on puree and soft foods. So far i have had NO PROBLEMS!! tg!! I am having dificulty learning to eat again... Chew, chew and eat slowly!! Those are the hardest but i think i should have them down good in a couple of days! I feel good and i have no more horrible back pain! I feel great with 23 pounds gone imagine with 135 pounds less!! My weight before surgery was 300 pounds! I had never been that weight but yet again i have never been skinny. Ever since i can remember i have always been the heavier girl of the group. Everyone says to me: You have such a beautiful face but if you would only loose a little bit of weight! It was always nice but then it was like a stab in my heart! At 300 pounds i was happy with my life.. my carrer, my personal, and even with what i saw in the mirror was okay. But at 300 pounds i was tired of feeling like the biggest person in the room and i was tired of feeling TIRED!! A whole new life started after i was sleeved. Thanks for reading... Look forward to all your stories and questions. Nohemi B.

Our chewing requirements are similar, and in fact lap-band requirements may be a bit more strict. This is a difficult behavior to change -- it was never apparent how little I chewed, and how much I swallowed at a time, until I had my band and had to pay attention. Until you get the hang of things, I would suggest eating with a baby spoon. SInce you have a 2 y/o, you probably have some of these laying around. The amount of food that a baby spoon holds when it has some room to spare is a good size bite to start with. Also until you get a feel for things, wait 3 - 5 minutes between bites. When we're learning our new feelings & sensations, sometimes we can misinterpret the message and eat a little too much, or a little too quickly. Regardless of your WLS, that's no good to do so soon after surgery. I did OK in the drinking front when learning how to drink more slowly (I was ALWAYS a chugger). It worked for me to take a normal mouthful, but then swallow it over 6 - 7 swallows. I know people who once again turned to their children's tools & used sippy cups with the "slow" restrictor in place. This didn't work for me as well because I had to suck which meant pulling in air, but it worked for them. When you get to a head hunger stage, serve your meals on side plates or saucers. It helps, mentally, to see a "plate full" -- regardless of plate size. HTH!

GreenEyedMamma 5 Posted July 23, 2011 Welcome and congrats. It is an AMAZING ride. I, too, eat with a baby spoon and a cocktail fork. I also eat out of a really small bowl. Eating slow was hard at first but you'll get the hang of it. It sounds like you are off to a great start and you have a wonderful support system here on this forum. You have made absolutely the best decision of your life besides becoming a mother! Now you will avoid a life full of medical complications and just being too big to fully participate in your childs life! I so wish the sleeve was an option 20 years ago! I feel at 47 I wasted my life being fat. I admire you!
