Boxing for fitness & body sculpting

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here tried boxing? I used to take kickboxing classes back in 1998 - 2000 but this is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about actual boxing/training, i.e., sparring, jump roping, speed bag, bag punching..etc.

I need variety in my workouts since I do it everyday, practically and I know me and ME gets very bored after awhile of doing the same things.

There is a boxing gym not far from me that I am thinking about checking out this week to see if it's for me. Costs $75.00 per month and $25 registration fee. I have to come with all my equipment which only costs roughly $75.00 (gloves, hand wraps, head guard, jump rope).

I have heard, read and have seen the results of what boxing training can do to a body in such a short time and let me tell you...the results are amazing!!!!

I've only done bits of it in circuit classes but I love it. And like Tae Bo there's lots and lots of trunk rotation if you punch properly, it will whittle down your torso, that's for sure.

I'd love to do a class too.

The kind of kickboxing I used to do, sport kickboxing, used a -lot- of basic boxing techniques and training, we used the same stance as boxers do, and all the same upper body striking techniques, jab, punch, upper cut, cross, etc. Lots of bag work, sparring, etc. I love it. I like martial arts the best out of all excerise types because it is always changing with you, as soon as you get good at something, there are new techniques to learn, tougher challenges to face, it's constantly changing and challenging you. I can't wait to be able to train again.

I cancelled my appt. with the trainer at the boxing studio. I think I'll order a boxing DVD to get the basics down first, the wean my way into the studio. I don't want to go in and look like a totally clueless girl. Will follow up soon.

Sissy. :heh: :)

Uhhh uhhhh!

I mean come on! I went there to check it out.... ALL MEN!

You think I feel comfy with that? I want to be more confident in my jabbing and upper cut skillz before I enter that gym to box. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
