I have both my Nut pre op today and my hospital pre op testing today. I'm nervous that they'll find something to postpone my surgery because it has happened to others. I haven't had any bad labs really before...so I'm hoping I won't have any issues now. DAY 4 with NO SODA! This is a HUGE deal for me!!!! I'm proud of me. I do still miss it...but I hope by the time a few months pass I will no longer want it. Wish me luck! I'm thinking of all ya'll having surgery today! ((hugs))

I did my pr-eop Monday. Previous to that my surgeon ordered and EKG which turned out abnormal. I was put through another EKG, a heart sonogram, a thallium stress test ( where they put radioactive Fluid in your veins) and tread mill. I was really freaking out thinking I was gonna have heart bypass surgery not VSG. After all of that I asked the Cardiologist what was wrong and he said he couldn't find anything. You will be fine. Just think of it as another step to prepare for your surgery. They might give you this little red Bracelet to wear that has your type and cross match on it. I have gotten some weird looks because I have to wear it until my surgery which they finally decided was next Tuesday. I think with pre-ops, no news is good news.

Good luck sweetie. I know how hard it is I quit drinking soda and it was the hardest thing I have ever done atleast it seems like it lol. Switched to tea, then green tea, then on my pre op diet I can't have anything with cafeeine. Thats going to be really hard. Hope everything goes well for you! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
