Hey all,

I'm 2 weeks out from my sleeve, and this morning since I've got to work I've noticed some fairly strong heart palpitations, mostly in my carotid... I haven't ate anything, I did drink a Protein shot on my way to work this morning, and took my normal morning Vitamins... I attempted mushy foods yesterday, and it didn't go to well, and there was slight temporary discomfort, I had 2 bites of scrambled eggs yesterday morning, and 3-4 bites of refried Beans last night... didn't notice the palpitations when I woke up this morning, just since I've been at work... no fever, or pain, or swelling or anything else... think it's any cause for worry? I did get them randomly before surgery as well... but since I'm only 2 weeks out, I'm paying more attention to everything..... my heartrate is not elevated, it's ranging between 85-90, which is normal for me....

Do you think the Protein shot could have caused it?

Try to relax. If they don't stop, call your doctor. Or at least go have your BP taken.

Hi there, I haven't had surgery yet so I can't relate to the post op part. However, it sounds like you may be experiencing some anxiety. I could be way off on this but I do have some experience with the symptoms of anxiety and stress. You are only two weeks out and your body has been through a lot, not to mention the emotional stress that comes with such a huge, life changing event. Don't take any chances with your health, call your Doc and let him/her know what you are experiencing. If it is anxiety, they may be able to help you work through it.

Take care and God Bless!

My mom (who is an ICU RN) thinks that my potassium may be low.. the palpitations have stopped for now, and I think it may very well be anxiety. I just got back from Las Vegas two nights ago(where i had my surgery) - and i've been lacking sleep readjusting to my old schedule... on top of preparing for a move back to Las Vegas next weekend... I'll go to the dr. if it keeps up, and i'm gonna go eat a banana on my break... I haven't had any problems with the Protein Shots go, i take several a day and haven't had any adverse side effects from that.. the only other time i've noticed it is when i ate those refried Beans yesterday, but from what i've read a lot of people have issues going into new food stages, yesterday being first day of mushy foods for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
