I've been on here for a while now and post occasionally. But I thought I'd share what was going on since surgery.

I was sleeved on July 11th (go Firecrackers) and have been recovering fairly well with everything relating to my new stomach. But I had a umbilical hernia before surgery and it has been the topic of discussion on several occasions between me and my surgeon. We had decided to not repair it during my VSG, unless I had intestine or something in it, and I was fine with that. Well after surgery my hernia got very irritated and inflamed. As it turns out, it is more painful than any other incision I have.

Well, anyway, I went to my 1 week post-op appointment and they direct admitted me back in the hospital to do a CAT scan and tests to make sure I didn't have any strangulated anything in the hernia, because it was still painful, swollen and irritated 1 week later and the skin was red around my belly button. I sat in the hospital for two days, being monitored and tested on. My surgeon wants to repair the hernia sooner rather than later now and I will go back in for surgery next week sometime.

But other than that...I feel fine.

Wow. I'm glad the sleeve went well for you! Sorry you need another surgery so soon for the hernia. I hope that goes as smoothly as the sleeve did for you. Best wishes.

Hope things go well for you. My surgeon did mention to me that he thought I had a hernia but wanted to see what it looked like when he got in there. Will be thinking of you and let us know how your second sugery goes.

Khy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
