Hi Zoelifechick,

I am going to have my surgery with Dr. Halmi at Bluepoint Surgical. I attend the classes at the Fredericksburg office. I will be having my surgery in September. I have my last class of my 3 month supervised weight loss tomorrow 7/25/2011. I'm getting a little nervous.

Turtlegirl49: The post below came from another patient of Dr. Halmi, see below:

Hi Zoelifechick,

I have Dr. Halmi too. I went into Potomac on July 19th and was discharged on the 21st. First two days were Pure D MISERY but today is a new day and I'm feeling a little more normal every day. Today I went out for a nice long walk. I did make one HUGE MISTAKE. They send you home with what I call a narcotic ball. You have a bag with a plastic ball filled with pain medicine with the tubes running from the bag thru the tubes and steadily into your belly. Well the directions were to wait untill the ball deflates then slowly pull out the tubes which should be in a couple of days. I didn't realize there's two layers to the ball so when the outer layer was completely deflated I pulled out the tubes (don't worry that part doesn't hurt). My curious 16 year old inspected the ball , stabbed it with a knife and a large amount of pain medication was in the center of the ball. There had to be at least 2-3 more days of pain meds in that ball. You can't put the tubes back in once you've pulled them out. Needless to say after about 10 hours the pain monster kicked my butt. Fortunately they send you home with a precription for liquid hydrocodone so the pain monster subsided and all is well. Lesson: DON'T PULL OUT THE STOMACH TUBES UNTIL THE WHOLE BAG IS COMPLETELY DEFLATED!!!!!!

On a good note Dr. Halmi was fantastic, I also recieved visits from Dr. Nain, The P.A. Amia, and the other P.A. Renaldo. The repaired my hiatal hernia, removed the lapband and revised it with the Gastric Sleeve. From the 19th to today I'm 14 pounds down. I'm not getting too happy because most of that was from the liquids completely emptying my colon. Now all the pounds from this day forward will be fat :).

Good Luck Zoelifechick, you have a great Bariatric team. Keep me posted.

I had surgery with Halmi on June 30th -- loved him, loved the staff and Potomac Hospital was wonderful - they have really improved. The private room you stay in is awesome. I only had to stay one night. My only problem was nausea and it took five meds to get that controlled.

Also if you hate IVs like I do - you can ask the surgery team to numb your hand before putting in the IV -- if they say they don't do that, tell them you know for a fact they do -- the anesthiaologist has to do it.

Good Luck

I was sleeved by Dr. Halmi and Dr. Nain on Oct. 26 last year. I had no problems at all, except one related to anesthesia that caused me to stay one extra day. I was sleeved on a Tuesday, sent home Friday, and felt so good I went back to work for a few hours the next Tuesday. I seriously can't speak highly enough of the staff at Bluepoint; you could not be in better hands.

Hello Zoelifechick,

So happy to see that you have gotten your surgery date! Your new life journey is about to begin. No matter what doubt you have jabout this surgery, just keep thinking of the end result...a happy and healthy life. I'm still waiting for my approval from the insurance company. I'm estimating that my surgery may be in October now instead of September :-(. You hang in there and keep thinging positive thoughts.

Take care,

Turtlegirl49

I was in that same class with you today (lol). I am excited that we will be able to travel this journey together.

I have also used Dr. Halmi's office. They are the best. I wouldn't have chosen anyone else.

My surgery was on June 21st. I have lost 82 lbs in 3 1/2 months. I see Ronado on Monday, October 10 to go over bloodwork.

Good luck and if you have questions about anything let us know.

B)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
