We're at the guesthouse in Monterrey

Recommended Posts

I'm being banded at one of the top 10 hospitals in the US.

Well whoop-dee-do!

Every patient is different, Dody. Let's not hijack mysherrijo's post, you can take that crap to another thread, please.

Hey you Monerrey gals - I yelled from my balcony here in Tijuana, did you hear me? :biggrin1:

Good luck to everyone today - Not sure what time my procedure is, I imagine sometime early this afternoon (my pre-op is this morning.)

As soon as we're back here I'll let you know how we're doing. I hope fishy is doing well as well and anyone else who is having surgery tomorrow.

You didn't have to go on liquids for 7 days to shrink your liver? Makes me wonder even moreso about those Mexican Doctors...and I've done a lot of worrying in the past about their tactics. I wish you the best of luck, but am so glad I stayed here in the states and didn't go to Mexico. They seem to have no qualms about pre-testing of any sort or dieting...just hand over the money and you are done. This isn't sour grapes...I just think it is dangerous.

God Bless,

Dody

I was told to lose 10-15 pounds to shrink my liver, but my Dr. told me that since my date was out in the future enough, if I could lose that weight before then by cutting out carbs and eating lean Protein and veggies, that was fine. It's not the liquid diet that shrinks the liver, it's the weight loss.

Good luck to you girls!! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

As far as Dody's comments.... geez! Not every doc is going to do things just like yours does.... that dosen't make yours any better than anyone elses. I wasn't on a pre-op liquid diet and I had ZERO gas... so there!

Hello everyone down in Monterrey! I was thinking about Amy yesterday that she might be there, so I called the guesthouse but didn’t know the room number of course. Then the operator came on speaking spanish and we didn’t communicate, so I hung up.

It’s about 9am Calif time, Your either out of surgery, or just about in….sending healing vibes and prayers for everyone. You’re in good hands with Dr. Sanchez! Say Hi to Alma and Dr. Suesanna.

On the Liver issue…last time I was in Monterrey Alma took me out on the town and we did a lot of talking. One of the questions I had for her was about big livers. Her response was that Dr. Sanchez will place another torpal (laparoscopic tool don’t know exactly what their called) to hold the liver out of the way. Dr. Sanchez is an excellent doctor please do not bash him.

So nit-pickey when this was suppose to be a such happy thread for Sherri, Amy and Tracey.

And by the way...technically Margaritas are a liquid diet. Everyone should try the Margarita diet at least once in their life!! (May take numerous tries to be successful!)

And I've yet to ever step foot in a US Hospital that rivals Santa Engracia. (Just my 2 cents)

Goodluck guys!!

I didn't have to diet before my surgery, and i was banded here in the US. I had absolutely NO gas after surgery. I was up and moving around and off pain meds that night. The only thing they told me was no food/drinks after 10'clock that night.

To everyone having Surgery today... GOOD LUCK and happy banding!

I was merely stating how very different things are in different places. I hated to think of you having all that gas after surgery that might come with having eaten up till about 12 hrs. before surgery. Sorry if I offended anyone. I was merely concerned.

Dody

Yes we could see the concern in your post. It's not that you are a condescending snob...but rather you are simply an angel looking out for everyone's well being.

Yes that was apparent to everyone who read your post.

:devious

Best wishes, girls!

And I agree, it is so nice that you are all there to support each other, not to mention the husbands.

Let us know how you are doing.

Prayers and "good energy" sent your way!

And a clear liquid at that... Maybe they would help with the post op pain? :) :) :) :) :) (A joke people....)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
