I am really excited about my surgery tomorrow. My 2 week pre-op diet allowed me to eat one meal in the evening and last night for my last meal I had a bowl of Soup and salad from Olive Garden. It tasted so good. A few months ago if someone told me my last meal was going to be Soup and salad I would have laughed but I enjoyed every bite. Today is all liquids and I am a little bit concerned on my how my blood sugar will hold up without Protein supplements so I am staying home and laying low today. I ordered some unflavorded unjury but haven't gotten it yet and I plan in it being a staple of my diet post op since I can add a little powder to just about anything to beef up my Protein intake.

I am really ready both mentally and emotionally for the surgery. When I make my mind up about something I don't look back. I was diagnosed with very aggressive breast cancer at age 27 and being a survivor have had to make some really tough choices in my life and learned the hard way you can't second guess yourself. For those motorcycle enthusiasts the old saying "when in doubt, accelerate out" works in life too. Power though the tough times and you may just find a much stronger person inside than you thought you were. :o)

To those of you just starting out and are thinking with all the hoops and hoopla you have to go through that you aren't sure you can make it. You can make it. Believe it or not that 3 or 6 month diet gives you time to get "your head right" so when you have the surgery you are ready. I am thankful I had that time and all of the conversations I had with my PCP about this. She was very supportive and I am grateful for that.

One more sleep and I get to join the others on the "Losers Bench". Can't wait!

I am really excited for you too. Wow, tomorrow is your first day of a new you. Yay Jen!!

A few tips. Remember to go to General Sleeve Surgery Discussion forum here (scroll down a little) and in there is the "Offical what you will need for surgery" thread. Good stuff. Post Op what helped me...a heating pad. G2 gatorade since I was not up to gagging down thick Protein shakes that first week. Recovery is more about keeping hydrated than worrying about your Protein level. Drinking room tempature drinks, cold bothered my stomach. A heating pad to put on my stomach. Decaf peppermind tea, slightly warmed. I sat in a recliner for first week since I am a natural stomach sleeper and could not do that. Lipton chicken noodle Soup strained for broth only...diluted. PS - I was outpatient for this surgery, so I came home same day. No pain just felt lethargic that first week.

Again, thrilled for your new start. I love my sleeve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
