whatnow? 0 Posted July 10, 2006 Dr. C, I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions for me? I attempted to have the lap band surgery but during the surgery my stomach was perforated. How should something like this have been repaired? How should the perforation have been fixed? Is there a protocol for this situation? Apparently the perforation took place on the fundus? In my situation, the surgeon cut the piece of my stomach and wrapped it around the esophagus. Kind of like a fundoplication? I have had a pretty difficult time with diarrhea since the surgery. It happens almost everytime I eat something and it has been several months since the surgery. I had an endoscopy and they said my stomach looks fine as does my esophagus etc... The gastroenterogist says that I do have a hernia near the belly button 2.6 x 4.0 cm and it is pinching my intestines which could cause the diarrhea. It is incarcerated? I now have to have it repaired. Have any of your patients experienced this as a result of the surgery? The surgeon also said that I could maybe find a surgeon that would do the band for me but he wouldn't. It would be considered too risky. At this point in time I wouldn't consider it because I would like to get the diarrhea/stomach pain to go away. :help: Thanks in advance for your advice. P.S. A CT of the abdomen revealed the hernia. Trace Curry 1 Posted July 10, 2006 I don't think there is any standard protocol for this, I can't really second guess the surgeon who was there at the time. If you are considering gettting rebanded I would agree, it would be a fairly difficult operation. I would seek out a surgeon who has done bands on people who have had a fundoplication before. I personally haven't. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio www.thebanddoctor.com Dr. C, I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions for me?
