My nut said Peanut Butter was a bad idea because it is so high in fat - but it seems like such a good source of protein!

Anyone had alternative advice regarding Peanut Butter or nuts in general?

I have been having Peanut Butter on melba toast rounds about 3-4 times per week to try to get some Protein in. I've still been losing pretty well so I don't think it's impacting me too much. I went for my ten week follow-up today and the nurse practitioner told me to watch the calories in the Peanut Butter also. I know the Peter Pan Whipped has the lowest calories of the commercial brands.

When I need to get in more calories for the day, I have some Simply Jif on 3 crackers. About 1 TBSP is all, but it still has about 100 calories in the pb. Only eat it when I need extra calories tho. Not an everyday thing!

I just ordered something called PB2 from Amazon. I'll let you know how it is! I love the idea of adding Protein without the fat so i'm willing to try it. It's actually peanuts that have had all the oil squeezed out of them and then the leftovers grounded into a powder. There are a lot of things you are supposed to be able to do with it, from mixing with Water or milk (and more!) to make a creamy butter, to adding to shakes, adding to cooking (stir fries and such) and much more.

OH....and they have chocolate PB2 also......I only ordered the regular so far.....

here is a link to the manufacturers website:

I'll try to attach the nutritional stats too (1st time adding a file so we'll see!)

I use the whipped peter pan and i've added it to a vanilla Protein shake once and i also put a thin coat on 1/2 pure Protein bar(the choc pb one). It was yummy!

Does anyone know if their is a sf or lower calorie Nutella out there? Or something similar?

I have the same stuff. I only have a small amount at a time, but it tastes sooooo good I really have to be careful. I easily gravitate to foods that have a real taste appeal much like I did before surgery. I could easily eat wayyyyy more PB than I should and then I know it would have negative impacts. I made a packet of sugar free banana cream pudding and same thing- I couldn't resist the urge to eat it up in 2 days- maybe it was a day and a half. I'm not making anymore of that either. Maybe when I'm able to get more physical exercise in (only 3 wks out), I can use those as treats so I can better counter balance the calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
