I was wondering how long everyone had to take their pain meds post op. I'm on liquid lortab which is only for 3 days. The dr told me to call if I needed more, but I'm really hoping that I won't. What would you say are the odds of that?

I was given the same thing you have, but never took it after I left the hospital.

I did go and get some liquid tylenol and took it a couple of times when I pulled my stitches from sneezing. I didn't want to take the Lortab and drive!

I am day 3 post-op and for the last two night have only been using my pain meds at night to help me sleep. I don't really need them during the day. They have been giving me some crazy dreams, though - don't know what's up with that! :)

Hi

I had my sleeve done on 5th July...

Gotta say, on the second day I told the nurse I didn't feel I needed the pain killers - and I've never taken them since! I'm not being brave or foolish - I simply haven't needed them! I haven't been sick either, or suffered with wind. I can't believe I've had it done - it's incrediblebiggrin.gif

My surgeon NEVER gave me any narcotic pain medication! He told me in advance that he didn't use narcotics. Only thing he gave was Toradol, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory. (Sort of like Motrin on steroids.) I was mildly uncomfortable, and did wish I had a little bit more powerful pain medication the first two nights. But after that was fairly comfortable and declined even the Toradol.

I took a dose last night before bed, but I'm going to attempt to get off of it today. I haven't taken anything this morning, and the only pain/discomfort I have is at my largest incision site. It only hurts when I walk, and a pillow doesn't help much. I was wondering if wrapping an ace bandage around my abdomen would be ok??

It's Friday and I had my surgery on Tuesday. The made me take pain meds until Wed night but I haven't taken any since they made it my option. I've been doing a lot of walking and that has helped. However, I did take my first oral antibiotic this morning and then threw it up about 10 min later. Not fun! Think I'll have to forgo that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
