Hello everyone ~ here's my question, for those of you that are more well-endowed than others, were you able to wear a leisure bra or sports bra after surgery, especially during your strolls through the hallways? It seems to me that it would be uncomfortable with a bra (even a light fitting one) and just as uncomfortable if you have large sagging breasts. Opinions please.

Thanks,

Virty

I did not wear a bra for about a week because i had two incisions that were near my breasts. if you do have incisions near your breasts, you want to make sure you keep the incision dry (breasts on skin contact may create moisture) so you don't get a rash. to do this, i just used gauzed pads to put over my incisions lightly so my breasts did not rub against the incision

The highest incision I had was just below my sternum. It's the one they put the trochar in to move the liver out of the way.

I purchased a light support, front closure sports bra and I put it on and wore it as soon as I could. I could not stand walking the cold hallways bebopping around braless. Plus, the abdominal swelling, was more uncomfortable with my boobs sitting on my belly.

I wore that bra for weeks on end, and even slept in it. For me, it was extremely comfortable, and gave me some support.

I had an incision right where my bra band would lay. I don't think I wore a bra for at least two weeks. Even when I went for my one week check up to get my staples out I just wore a soft cup camisole under my shirt and walked with my arms crossed..lol. But then again I am not one of those people that feels the need to wear a bra all the time. As soon as I walk in the door to my house the first thing I do is take my bra and shoes off, or at least before surgery that's what I did. I was about a 40G then and now that I'm down to a DDD it's not as uncomfortable so I tend to keep it on more.

I had an incision that was high between my breasts that my bra rubbed against and was a bit uncomfortable. I still wore it though because I did not want to walk the halls with nothing on. After maneuvering to get it on it wasn't an issue.

My incisions were not as high as others and I was able to wear a bra with no problem. I have pretty big boobs so it felt more comfortable to wear one around the house than to not wear one.

Thanks everyone, your answers so far have been very helpful. The thought of walking the hospital floor without one has absolutely no appeal :( I will be sure to take my two choices with me.

I think I will probably bring my Enell sports bra. I have H-cups and I plan to walk, walk, walk.. I know it helped tremendously with my c-sections. The Enell is great and is a front closure bra.

Thanks, I have been looking at the Enell sports bra, but at this point, it is pointless to buy one in my current size. I'm going to buy one later as my weight stablizes a bit after surgery. Those that have traveled this road, state that will come off rather quickly, so for the cost of the Enell, it is best for me to wait on that purchase.

This is true. I bought mine last year when I had quite a bit of weight off (that I have since regained, and then some) but I think that it will be fine after the 30 lbs I intend to lose between now and surgery date. Either way I can still close it all the way down, it's just a little snug at my ribs. I think the sizing on the Enell's is very accommodating.

I packed several of my regular bras, and wore them from the time I woke up in my room till I went home. My incisions were high enough that the top one was right below where the band of my bra hit, but I am almost never comfortable without wearing a bra, so I put it on as soon as I was able, and wore it all the time in the hospital and since I have come home. Even when I did the swallow thing after surgery, to make sure there weren't any leaks, I wore my bra. On the x-ray for leaks, you can see two big "U"s that are my underwires! I think it is exactly what you are comfortable with!

I got a bra on the day after surgery as I HATE that feeling of having boobs flopping around. I had an incision on the high sternum too, but this was well covered and small so the front of the bra rested on it and caused no pain at all. Having my boobs resting on my stomach loose was WAY worse. This is total TMI, but when I first got out of bed a few hours post surgery I had nothing on but a gown and I had to lift them off of my stomach (what with all the sweat and blood stains) to even get standing. It was so much more painful!

I'm just a D cup, and did not wear one in the hospital. I tried to wear one today and it was painful in the area on my left side incision....so no go today. Will try again tomorrow.

i did not wear a bra in the hospital. was only there overnight. i did not wear one at home either. when i went out for walks i did, but my highest incision was in between my ribcage and about an inch below. so way lower than where my bra sat.

you will be fine to wear a bra!

Kelly :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
