mad that i can't eat more

Recommended Posts

My vsg was June 28, so I'm only two weeks post op, but my Dr has advanced me to soft foods. He says I can have anything that can be mushed with a fork. I'm eating a wide variety of foods but I'm getting so angry that I can't eat more than a few tsp at a time. I know not to "graze" and continually eat, and I know i'm not really hungry, but i still WANT to eat more. Does that addiction/feeling ever go away? I do understand the logistics, and that this is how the surgery works. I'm still having times where I regret having the surgery, but i've lost 15 pounds in two weeks so that helps pull me in the other direction.

It will get better. After a few times of eating TOO much, you will naturally just start to know that eating less is good and you will feel better about it too. Just takes time. Eating too much does not feel good and can even make you throw up. I've always felt like I needed to feel full (and that's why I was fat), and I've had my own challenges in learning the correct balance with my new tummy. But you will adjust.

I had surgery on June 29 & I feel the same as you!

Glad to know I'm not alone but sorry you're feeling that way too. How much have you lost?

This is what I call breaking up with food :)

I love this concept of "breaking up with food." After I had a couple of overfull experiences during about week 3 my ideas about eating changed drastically. I began to associate "overeating" with pain and discomfort. Overeating now is dramatically negatively reinforced for me! I think this is a GREAT THING. I now know at week 13 post op that when I begin to experience my full signals which are burping and/or hiccuping I need to stop eating. If I take even one more bite, I will regret it. Believe me, I have learned from experience. It is hard for me to throw food away and when I measure out my 1/2 cup of Protein and put a couple of bites of veggies on my plate, I feel compelled to try to finish it all. And, its aways a mistake. I have had to learn to listen to my sleeve when she says she has had enough and toss the extra food in the trash.

I went through the same thing. Even now, I joke with my husband during really good meals that, "This is going to be one of those meals where I wish I could eat more." But, now it's more funny than frustrating. :)

Hang in there!

I am 5 weeks out from my surgery. And I miss eating, still. I get so frustrated that I can only eat a few bites, or I can't have a little bit of everything on the dinner table because I fill up so quickly with my meat or Protein.

My nutritionist says I should be able to eat a little more eventually, as the stomach heals completely, but never more than 1 cup of food total at a meal. I find I have to eat about every three hours or I get nauseated. And it is getting easier with time. I too am finding those little signals of "full" (hiccups usually!) and I too have overeaten twice with miserable results, and that is training me to pay more attention to my body.

I know the farther out I get, it will be become my new routine. And I love what someone said about a breakup with food...it really is. I miss it terribly!! I just have to focus on other positive things in my life and take it one day at a time.

Thanks to everyone who shares their experience!

If I really like something, I just remember that I can eat it again at my next meal if I still want more of it. I am getting to eat all I want, just stretched out over a long time ;)

It would bother me so much that I couldn't eat more, especially when eating out. I then learned to order more wisely at restaurants. I now am happy that I can get 2 or 3 meals out of one restaurant meal. I also had problems at home with watching my husband and kids eat so much more, then it just went away..... Just like everything in life...you just have to get used to it..

Good Luck.

I was so angry for the first few weeks. But you get past it and you move on. As the swelling going down, you'll get a bit more down and it'll feel more satisfying. Just keep with it and let yourself feel the feelings you're body are having. That way you can process it and feel better quicker.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
