Well, at 1.5 cc, i was still able to eat more quantity than my doc thought i should, so he bumped me up to 2 cc, and Way too tight.. Today i went back in, and unfilled down to 1.8cc... Seems to be a little better.. I'll take it easy for a few days, and let you know...

I was banded in Perth, Western Australia. I have a 4.5cc band and my 1st fill of 1.5cc and feel no restriction. My Doc lets me eat solids straight away. No liquid/mushie stage...It's very interesting to read that most Drs in the USA make patients go on liquid/mushie for 2 days after.

To date I have only lost 3.8kg and slowly going up again. My next appointment is on the 7th Sept for my 2nd fill, and hopefully this time I will feel fullness.

Regards

Sarah

My first fill was at 5 weeks postop and it was 1.5 but I couldn't tell it. Dr. Curry said come back in two weeks and I'll bump it up. He does them under fluro and hits it first time. The second was .75 to put it up to 2.25, that was really a big hit for me as it is definitely doing it's job. Had been losing a pound a day but slowed down to 1/2 pound this morning. I upped my Protein. He said in 3 more weeks I would need a little more so I'm going for it. So far lots of restriction, mostly in mornings but I do better in the afternoon. No signs of pging or sliming at all yet. Hope it never happens. We'll see if I get fill #3 in 3 weeks. That would put me at about 2.75 and that's pretty full.

I've been banded almost 2 years and I'm at 2.2 in a 4cc band. I had restriction on the first real fill, (missed the port on the first one).

I think it depends a lot on how agressive your doctor is and trust me each person is so different. Even a smidgen of a fill too much, causes major pb. I've had almost as many slight unfills as fills. My doctor never puts more than 02 at a time, (for me).

I'm going to see my surgeon on the same day as you for another fill. My MD requires liquids the day of the fill, soft food for the day after and then back to solids. You're right, it does seem like the USA surgeons are more rigid in their dietary requirements. Good luck to you on the 7th... post how it went.

This is a good point that new banders should be aware of at the start so they do not get discouraged if the weight doesn't just drop off after the op. I had my 5th fill last week bringing me to just on 4 mls in a 5 ml Innamed band. I have only just started to feel any real restriction. They reason my doctor says is that I have a smaller than average stomach (how ironic is that) and/or the lining of my stomach is thinner than the avarage. Thank god this band is adjustable. I lost weight after my March op but with little or no restriction I started putting back on. If you are not an overly tall or big boned person then maybe your insides are small too and you're gunna need more fill to get results. This was a revelation to me and something I wished I knew earlier.

Hello Jack,

I started putting on wieght after loosing some on the pre op diet. I felt no restriction, so quickly went back to my long established and stubbon habit of overeating. Restricting the portion I can eat was the whole point of having this operation for me. I've had a weight problem since I was 12. In that time I have tried many, many times to eat 'normal' amounts of food but failed over and over for 25 years. Jack, I do eat normal foods but I used to eat a lot more of it before the band.

Of course anyone can cheat the band by drinking high calloric liquids but you should be very carefull telling fellow bandsters to just eat normal food and amounts - dont you think we tried that already!! The restriction afforded me by the band is my best shot of having a normal life and by god I'm going to use it - bring on the fill I say!!

Hi again Jack,

I agree with you completely. I too have an interest in the psycology of weight gain & loss however I wonder if it's not a bit 'too much too soon 'for a lot of bandsters. I know myself that I am just so greatfull to have the band and it's finally working. Maybe down the track, if I'm no longer happy with my progress, I'll look at it more closely but right now I feel like I've won the lotto.

Hi Everyone,

I rang up the Doctors office today and requested a fill earlier than the 7th Sept and low and behold, I got in this afternoon...The assistant doctor put .5cc into the band. Total now of 2.0cc. Everything went smoothly (thank goodness).

Had a greek salad tonight for dinner and actually felt like I had a bit of restriction. What a great feeling!!!!!!Let's hope I don't need anything else to eat before bed. LOL

Thought I'd share my 2nd fill experience.

Cheers

Sarah

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
