birdie123 0 Posted July 13, 2011 Hi, Recently I've been diagnosed with diabeties due to my weight, and the doctor told me about the Options Program (12 weeks) that is offered at Kaiser. Can anyone please tell me more about this program, how it works and how fast surgery will take place? I know it will not cure diabeties but she did say it can control it? i have so many questions.....thanks

jayecat 0 Posted July 14, 2011 Which part of California? Kaiser's bariatric programs are different depending on whether you are in southern cal or northern cal. I go to Kaiser Fontana. The classes educate you about the different surgeries they offer, what test are required prior to surgery, the different facilities they use. Fontana is just starting to do some surgery in house this year. Most patients go to Crown or Pacific. The classes also cover nutrition, learning to read labels, what they want you to eat and when ( both pre-op and post-op), Vitamins and supplement they want you to take, Protein requirements, chewing and Fluid intake. They cover emotional aspects such as depression, what triggers you to eat, how to be assertive to get what you need from those around you. They will be scheduling your tests, having you sign information release forms, informing you about the timeline from end of class to surgery date. They also have you weigh in every week. At the end of the 12 weeks you will have a 3 inch binder jam packed with information. I think that covers most of. I finished the classes in February so I may have left something out. I have not had surgery yet because I have been playing mind games with myself for the last 4 months. If you have any other questions, I'll try to answer them for you. kellyw74 258 Posted July 14, 2011 Kaiser N. Califoria does not make you do the 12 weeks of Options classes before the surgery. Kelly
