Oh yeah!!! Dahlin that's just a month away... I"m so happy for you! BTW I was crackin up over that pict with the random dude in it. I was wondering who the heck that was...

And I had a drain after my surgery. Just be prepared when they pull it out. It's a very weeiirrrdddd feeling. Not painful just heeby jeeby weird. LOL :)

The nurse/instructor said make sure you tell them to take it out quickly. She said it will feel better that way. I'm telling you, freaking me out LOL! I think it's even more freaky because there will be 2 (?????). UGH!

I had two nasty drains in for a week after my Tummy Tuck and the removal of those things is best if it is swift. I will warn you though it made me gasp. It felt so freaking weird. It was a sharp little pain but the feeling was just freaky of it sliding out from under your skin. Yes, I probably did nothing right now to help you with that visual but hell after all these surgeries the drain removal is nothing but it is something you will probably remember. HUGS.

Hey honey,

I saw something on tv recently about a lady who had this done. Good that you can get it covered by Kaiser :)

Look forward to hearing how you get on. xxx

Hey Sophia, I saw my PCP today and asked for the panni referral. He agreed but said he didn't think it would be covered! No way! I'm really hoping he is just misinformed, but said we may have to really play it up that I have rashes and problems or they may not cover it. I told him I'd heard the exact opposit and even shared your story about getting right thru, so I don't know now. But that was this morning and I already had a phone message from Fontana that they received my referral and were calling to make an appt. with me...ha ha ha! Can that go any faster???? I assume this will be for a class like you went to. I'll keep you posted. I wanted to ask you if your surgery would be at Ontario or Fontana?

These PCPs have no idea what they are talking about. I specifically remember Dr. Zane saying if WE say you need a panni, you get one and it's the only plastic loose skin procedure that Kaiser will cover. Now that is when the referral comes from the bariatric department. I'm not sure what is going to happen in my case, since it came from obgyn. I really wasn't even thinking about a panni otherwise I would have asked Dr. Zane for one.

I did the initial panni class right away in Fontana. I'm scheduled to see the surgeon on September 14th, in Fontana (they actually wanted to see my sooner I just couldn't make the appt). So I guess it all depends on how the appt goes that day. If it's meant to be, it shall be :)...I'm still scurrred about the 2 drains LOL! I will definitely keep you posted!!!

I agree. I'm sure my PCP was out of the loop on this. But OMG - I already have the class appt. next week on 9/7. Jeez I'll probably have the surgery the week after that LOL! Sounds like yours is going to be scheduled very soon. Yikes. What are we getting ourselves into?

So I attended the pre-panni class today at Fontana. Didn't learn anything that you didn't already share with us, Sophia. They said to let my PCP know that I finished the class and he would take care of notifying the surgeon's office and then they will schedule an appt.for me. Let us know how your appt. goes.

What? That's weird. I didn't have to call anyone to let them know I finished the class...interesting. The surgery department just called me right away to schedule an appointment. I wonder why they said that. Did they tell you that once you have your consult with the surgeon it could be a 1 week wait to a 3 month wait, just depending on how busy they were?

Hello

I've been researching TTs, Panni's, abdominal lipectomy, abdominalplasty on the internet and watching surgery procedures on youtube.... one website I found that were written by the plastic surgeons in Bellflower, Ca is

http://xnet.kp.org/permanentejournal/spr08/abdominal_lipectomy.html

I found this to be great information. It seems that Kaiser approved for patients to have an abdominal lipectomy which is the panniculectomy and abdominalplasty together. Although I am at 85 pounds lost, I have an appt to see plastic surgeon in a week 1/2. I merely want to know where I stand in having the procedure and go from there. WIll keep you all posted.

Good luck Sophia

Krys

Good luck to all of you.

I was wondering about the panni procedure too. Especially since Kaiser will cover it! I've never been able to find any pictures of a panni without it being a Tummy Tuck so I'm really curious how it will look without any of the tightening of the stomach. I didn't think it went all the way around though. If you have a link to examples, please share, thanks!

Hello

I thought maybe this website will help us to understand the differences. The website contains pictures of patients who had a different of variety of surgeries---before and after.

Please Beware

from Sophia::::Your BMI must be no greater than 30 (Kaiser). Have a stable weight (they say for at least 6 months).

Hi Sohpia

Did the instructor emphasize this as a must or this is what Kaiser prefers? I have an appt Jan 3 with plastic surgeon. However, I am not at goal, but my weight has been the same since June. BMI is over 35.

Well, I know it's been awhile, but I just had my 6 month follow-up appt. with the surgeon for my panni surgery. I have a date!! I'm sooooo excited. It's been so long that it's reminding me of the long journey leading up to my sleeve surgery. So just 6 weeks from now I will have this fatty apron of skin removed from my stomach for FREEEEEEE. I've wanted this thing gone for so long. I'm very excited.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
