Question: "Golf ball" syndrome?

Recommended Posts

Hiya,

Okay, yup...I've read about the golf ball feeling.

I got restricted on Thurs. Off and on (more on for the last day) I've had this odd feeling in the back of my throat area (& maybe a wee bit lower) like something is "there" (but I know nothing is actually there). It's not pleasant....not painful per say but certainly discomforting. I could understand if I ate something and then this feeling resulted (well, not completely understand; but a lil' bit)...but I'm getting this feeling even when I don't eat.

For instance I've been up this morning for 2 hrs now (haven't eaten yet) but yet I "feel" this feeling (whether it is a stuck feeling or golf ball feeling, I don't know).

Can anyone explain to me what this is? and will it go away? Just doesn't seem right to me.

Hi there...I only have that golf ball feeling whenever I have taken too big of a bite or have eaten too fast. It is the feeling I get right before I PB if I keep eating and don't listen to my body and quit eating or slow down. I have never had that golfball feeling w/out eating BUT I have felt a very tight discomforting feeling in my chest sometimes. When I have days like that I just have to be extra careful on what I eat and how fast I chew. Sorry--wish I could be of more help to you!!

Golf balls hurt!

Sometimes I get a sensation in my throat in the morning, but a warm drink (coffee, tea) makes it dissipate. I am pretty sure it is saliva/foam from a night spent swallowing.

Not sure if what you are talking about is the same thing, but others have this sensation in addition to their restriction. Or so I have read.

Yoda,

The golfball feeling is pretty specific - I call it the FLAMING GOLFBALL OF DEATH! Can you tell that, for me at least, it really really hurts? It sounds to me like you're have a bit of esophogitis.

After my first fill/overfill saga (read my LBT journal if you're interested in THAT fiasco) I had an almost constant pressure in my chest, sounds more like what you're feeling now. Turns out I have/had esophogitis - probably from being irritated by my first horrific PB and then being overfilled by my stupid, irresponsible, unethical fill doctor. I've been on Nexium for about 4 weeks now and it feels much much better.

Good luck - tell us what you find out.

If you feel it in the morning, it could be your food from last night. I know this has happened to me. Also, liquids can certainly cause this if you drink quickly. It could also be reflux.

I'm rather new at this, but, a friend of mine had this problem for a coupld of days after her last fill and her doc told her it was probably swelling and to do liquids for a couple of days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
