New time & potentially a new problem

Recommended Posts

I just received a phone call that my surgery time has been moved up by an hour and fifteen minutes. Now, I am to be at the hospital at 7:45 am with surgery at 9:15 am tomorrow. Woo Hoo!!!

But, the lady said, did you do your blood work? I told her I went in last Tuesday and the only bloodwork they drew was blood typing. Everything else was done on May 27 and the surgeon had told me that he wouldn't need anything else. So now, I may have to do even more blood work. Sigh...

Clear liquids today - not happy about that - it's already screwing with my head at 8am....

Sounds like the madness has begun for you!!! Trying to mentally prepare for surgery without being able to eat is a tough day - I went through it last week and I can relate. Make yourself busy today and hope that it flies by. Hopefully the fact that you'll need a blood draw will help keep you occupied today and help you stay busy.

You can do this!!!

I'm trying to stay busy - but man am I "hungry"! This all liquid diet really stinks. If they need blood, they'll do it tomorrow apparently as I haven't gotten another call.

Leaving work now to go grocery shopping for the next week. Then I need to head over to someone's house to work on their computer. I hope that won't keep me too late.... :)

I know it is easy to say, but drink lots of room temp Water, chew gum and brush your teeth. You will be so full of water that you won't want to eat. You can do this Nancy!!!! You are strong! One step at a time! You are almost there! Deep Breaths! ((hugs))

Chewing gum has never been an option for me. I tried it 3 or 4 different times when I was a kid, and I always swallowed it after a couple of minutes!

I went to work and puttered around, then I did my grocery shopping for the next few weeks (canned meats, veggies, etc) - except for the dairy which I will still have to go each week for. Tonight I have a computer to fix for someone, so I'm just "chilling" at the moment and sipping away on some broth, sf Jello and Water. When I was at the store I did get some Isopure alpine punch (the only flavor they had), so that's in the fridge to cool and I'll drink one of those tonight to get some Protein in (which I know will help with the hunger). Admittedly, I'm sure the hunger is more head hunger than actual hunger because I want to "chew" my food, not drink it. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
