sychadelic 10 Posted July 11, 2011 Just wondering if anybody else gets a feeling of constriction in their throat? I notice once or twice a day my throat feels very tight - almost like someone has their hand on my throat. Sometimes it's after eating, and sometimes hours after eating. If you have had it, have you found a trick to minimize the feeling?
Bryn Dawson 9 Posted July 11, 2011 I'm still preop but I know I get this feeling when I'm having a bad bout with acid. Maybe taking an acid medication (PPI) would help?
KellyL 173 Posted July 11, 2011 I agree, I know I talk a lot about PPI's, but I have read this on the boards before, that acid can cause this feeling. I hope I don't get it, I have a slight choking phobia! If you are already on a PPI, then do a search on OH cuz I know I've seen it discussed, and maybe there are other things people have tried and it helped. Infernored 5 Posted July 11, 2011 My doctor told me that was acid reflux and if it happened regularly to get on an acid reducer medication. I've had it a couple times and next time I go I'm going to ask what he recommends.
sychadelic 10 Posted July 11, 2011 Thanks ladies, I didn't even think about the possibility of acid. I have a PPI but don't take very often since I really don't like taking pills much at all. Since I like being choked less, guess I'll be taking some pills, lol. Thanks all!

ashlee 0 Posted July 14, 2011 OMG!!! I thought I was the only one choking!!!!! Although I haven't been sleeved yet (my date is 7/18/2011) this past month has been hell. My Dr. said it was my acid reflux and to take my Previcid. She also said it was very common to feel like you were suffocating because of the acid; but mine was really bad since a few weeks before I had actually choked on my food. I had full blown panic attacks and wouldn't eat, it became a full-blown phobia for me enough for my Dr. to prescribe anti-anxiety medicine! As the time has passed I am now able to eat I just chew my food really well and I try not to eat too much. Keep taking your medicine and you will be 100 times better!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!
