Not sure what to think......

Recommended Posts

I'm not too sure what to think about what a co-worker told me. Where I work the are over 300 employees. The insurance company held a workshop for WLS with a nurse that gave the information on the different types of surgeries. I was confused by what she was told by the nurse. That the Mini Gastric Bypass procedure is the same as a VSG????? I'm a little bit upset that a medical professional (Nurse) would say that. Now correct me if I'm wrong, the two procedures are not the same and shouldn't be considered that they are. I felt as if the employees that attended that workshop walked away so misinformed. I know that the insurance company will and does not cover nor does it acknowledge MGB surgery. Maybe the nurse was not a Bariatric Nurse. But that co-worker is thinking that the two procedures are one in the same. I just wish I would've went with my nice 8x10 picture of my sleeve to show it isn't anything like a bypass. I just hope the ones considering surgery do research their choice of WLS. So that they can make a more informative decision and not take what they were told at face value.

MGB is nothing like VSG. They don't remove any of the stomach and they make a pouch and re-route your intestines. There's no intestinal re-routing with VSG. With MGB many experience dumping.

MGB isn't practised by many surgeons at all and I'm very dubious about the few that do. There's plenty of info on youtube about MGB but it's all publicity. I've not found any posts by patients themselves. I suspect there's some sort of NDA on them as there's absolutely nothing out there that I can find.

Hi Tijuana,

Thats the point exactly. Not sure why that procedure was even brought up. I am so sure that the insurance company has no idea that was even discussed. Just pissed that my fellow co-workers were sadly mis-informed.

I wonder if the nurse worked for an MGB surgeon and somehow thought it'd entice people to get MGB (it's stupid whatever her reason for saying this, but I can't think of a sane reason why someone would say MGB=VSG).

Also MGB is a pain insurance-wise. With the surgeon I looked into you have to pay him and then claim back the money from your insurance.

If people are interested they have to do their own checking, it's pretty easy to find out the differences between VSG and MGB and the most minimal research would reveal this.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
