I was sleeved 2 1/2 weeks ago and this is the second time this has happened. I was scheduled for blood work this morning so I could not get my Protein Shake in first thing this morning. My stomach felt really terrible. Like really hungry and upset. Then I started to vomit and it was acid. Once I got the acid out I felt a little better, made my Protein shake and took it with me to get the blood work. Once I had my fasting blood draw, I drank my protein shake. Felt ok for a little while, but still feel like there is acid. I had this happen on Clear Liquids. I am taking a PPI everyday which should keep my acid under control.

I thought once we had this surgery, the acid would be better. I used to take omeperazole before surgery, will be able to take again in a few months, but right now taking the dissolvable previcid my doc wants me to take. I broke down and had some crackers to soak up the acid. I am feeling somewhat better since I ate the crackers. I don't want it to slow my weight loss down, but could not think of anything else to do. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Apparently it takes a while for your body to scale back the amount of stomach acid it produces after surgery, so it's pretty common to have acid issues. Have you called your surgeon's office? I think some people take Maalox for breakthrough acid.

Good luck - that's one of the issues I'm concerned about as well, but so far I'm doing ok (knock on wood!!)

Some people have better luck with different PPIs than others. If omeprazole worked for you in the past, ditch the dissolvable Prevacid and go back to Prilosec. Those pills are pretty tiny and you should be able to swallow them at 2 1/2 weeks. If that doesn't work, you might have to double the dose for a little while or add an H2 blocker like Zantac or Pepcid.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
