I feel like I have severe morning sickness

Recommended Posts

I had my Gastric Sleeve Surgery on June 18 so I am just a few weeks out. I am suppose to be eating soft foods and I am, though it is a struggle to eat as much as has been recommended. My biggest hurdle right now is how awful I feel for about an hour or two when I first get up. I feel nauseated, hot, dizzy.... just like a hangover or morning sickness. I really have to push myself to get something in my stomach. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Sounds like low blood sugar.

Could you drink some juice as soon as you get up and see if that helps? You could even keep it next to the bed so you don't have to go far.

Are you taking a PPI? Acid can make you feel horrible and if you are not taking Nexium, Prilosec, Zegrid, Aciphex or something, you really should ask your dr. for some!

I'm taking Prevacid morning and night, it seems that between those, Multi Vitamins, and another perscription I have to take, I am full half the day just from them, even when I spread them out. I'll be happy when I can get more food in. I should be eating more soft foods now and I can tolerate most anything, not nearly as much as I have heard people describe. One scrambled egg is too much. It takes me all day to get in a Protein Shake.< /p>

You will be able to eat and drink more the further out you go. Getting your liquids in at this point is challenging. That is why it is imerative that if nothing else, you drink your fluids, even if you can't eat!!! Drink WATER!!!

Don't take your Vitamins on an empty stomach, that will make you feel sick too!! My Vitamins were making me horribly sick and I didn't understand why!! That was it! I started eating first and then I was fine. You might also want to try eating before you take any pills, maybe your sleeve is just super sensitive.

Are you alergic to milk? Maybe the Protein drinks are agreeing with you?? Theses are all things for you to take into consideration. If you aren't drinking enough, the nausea could also be because you are dehydrated. Be careful with that!! SIP SIP SIP!!

If you don't get better, call your dr.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
