You say its normal...but I still don't like it!

Hi Everyone!

I had my surgery on June 8th! Tomorrow will be my 1 month surgiversary. I'm doing ok strength wise. I feel pretty much back to normal besides not being able to eat very much of course. I'm still on my soft food/puree stage. My biggest problem is that when something tastes good, I eat a little bit over the course of an hour or two until I'm sick of the taste or until it's done. It sounds bad, but its usually only about a cup of food. Not sure if that's wrong or right to do. But my surgeon's office was adamant about not relying on protien shakes to get my protien in. They encourage you to prgress through the food stages until you are able to get all protien through natural eating. Anyway, I went off topic a little there. The purpose of this post is that I'VE HIT A PLATEAU!!!!!! I lost 10 lbs. pre-surgery and 14/15 lbs. post surgery! My scale has been tinking and toddering between 200 and 201 for the last two weeks! I was so excited to be a 190's girl fir the first time in yeaaarssss and my body just doesn't seem to want me to get there! Its so frustrating!! I haven't started exercising yet b/c I'm not yet taking in enough calories. If I work out I will have a negative calorie value for the day and I feel like that will only hinder my weight loss even further.

What the heezy should I do??

You have lost 25lbs in a month. That is AWESOME!!!

Your body needs to catch up. That is what is going on!! That is all. I did the same thing and it is frustrating, but know that is alot of weight to lose in a short peroid of time !! Celebrate those lbs and know that you WILL start losing again. FOllow your dr.'s guidelines and you will be fine!

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Lost 8 lb before surgery. By June 30 had lost 29 lbs. total. I gained a pound since then and this hasn't changed in a week. You are not alone.

Yeah, they are a part of it, it happens to all of us, and it sucks!! None of us like it, but you have to just try to be patient, stop getting on the scales for a while (wk or so) measure yourself with a tape measure, or try on smaller clothes. Try to distract yourself with exercise or whatever. I love shopping myself lol. Congrats on the weight loss so far!!!

My surgery was on June 10th, and I've lost 28 lbs since then. I weigh myself once and week and I've noticed it has slowed down tremendously. I worry that it will be like this forever and I will not meet my goals. I talked to my dietician and she says that's the best way because the faster you lose, the looser your skin gets and the weight loss doesn't look natural. I was hoping to be out of the 200's, but 1 lb to go. we're all in there with the same issues and let's hope it gets better.

Increase your Water intake, and even though you don't need a Protein shake to get your Protein in, adding one a day will not hurt you!!! Extra protein is always good and it helps to boost your metabolism... I was in a rut for the last 2 weeks, actually gained a few pounds... went back to a Protein Shake a day 2 days ago and increased my water.... well one or both worked for me!! just give it a try!! biggrin.gif

And 15 pounds in the first month is really good because your starting weight is much lower than most people on here!!! Big losers the first month tend to be the much bigger people (like myself) i started off about 100 lbs heavier than you... :) i lost 23 lbs my first month.. 34 lbs if i count the weight i gained from the surgery, but i don't like counting that or pre-op lbs lost...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
