Hi, I'm from Ashburn, VA and will be getting sleeved at Virginia Hospital Center by Dr. Mayes. He's in the same office as Dr. Salameh. Anyone else have Dr. Mayes?

Seems like I'm late to this party.

My name is TJ and I was sleeved in July 2012 by Dr. Kelly in Mexico. I currently live in Montgomery County, MD and work in DC. I weighed 337 at my heaviest and I am currently at 206 (fighting stupid hard to get down to the 100's). This thread doesn't seem to be too active, but I would definitely like to see more MD/DC/VA sleevers post here.

To those who have been sleeved - lets keep up the drive, lets exercise and lets hit goal.

To those who have yet to be sleeved - you can do it, I had to pay out of pocket and saved for a year before I could, but I did. It is the best decision you will ever make.

Happy Friday!

Hello, seems I'm a bit late to the party too.

My name is Rebeca, I'm a pre-op kaiser permanente patient. I'll either have Dr. Salameh or Dr. Mayes over at the Virginia Hospital Center.

Kaiser decides for you, or else I'd of gone with Dr. Mozzaze (spelling?) at Blue Point as I liked him and the Fair Oaks Hospital is much closer to my house.

There is a Kaiser Permanente Support group next Tuesday the 26th at the Fair Oaks Kaiser that's free and open to anyone kaiser or not. I'll be there in a bright green dress if you want to say Hi!

I friended as many DMV people as I could, so I'd have a lifeline if I needed it. Please accept?

Thanks!

Rebeca

If u need anything or have questions please ask :) I wish I knew more people around here that are having or have had the surgery.

I live in leesburg, had my surgery with Dr. Garcia in T.J. And was hoping to find a local support group. Do you know of any groups out this direction?

Thanks for the info. Do you know when kaiser has theirs? Inova is the third Monday but I can't find the right website for kaiser. Hoping it's soon.

I'm in the Woodbridge area...we have a great support group the first Thursday of every month. I was sleeved 11/6/12 and have lost 43 lbs. it's a great journey. Good luck to all just starting their journey.

Where do you do your support group? I feel I need to attend a group.

I have kaiser Insurance so I go to their support groups. It's at the Fair Oaks Kaiser building, held on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Maybe you can call around to bariatric surgeons in the area and ask if they have an open support group where you can attend. I'm not sure if Kaiser will allow non-Kaiser patients join the group.

Good luck with finding a support group!

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post. I'm a Kaiser patient in Southern MD, finished all of my required classes and waiting for my approval. I'm beyond nervous!!! Hopefully I can use this forum to gain some info, encouraging words, a little support (which I lack) and a few laughs :-)

COME ON KAISER!!!

I'll be three years out in July. I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves in Mexico, but now live in the D.C. area again. This is the first time I've lived stateside since having my surgery, and I'm curious about the support groups in area and how they operate. Are they open to anyone or just to the patients of a specific surgeon? Are they a good mix of vets and newbies? I live in Alexandria but would consider a drive to a meeting worthwhile.

Did anyone ever put together a social group for this area? I think something once every few months could be fun and informative for a lot of us that don't have other sleeved people around in real life.

I would love to have something like this. There have got to be other people around. How are you doing with the sleeve after three years? I know the INOVA fair oaks has a meeting once a month (third Thursday) that is open to everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
