Power Shots of Protein

Recommended Posts

I am at the stage in my process that after my last nutrition visit today, I have just one more visit with the surgeon, then off for insurance approval hopefully soon after, surgery. I have been purchasing much needed Protein products and have read little about this particular item. Has anyone tried this protein teeny weany ? I have read some great reviews at sport sites, I would love to hear your feedback. It's IDS Sports, Grape flavor 42 grams of protein in 3.5 ounces. Check it out. http://www.gnc.com/p...oductId=2830575.

The dietician at my hospital says the same thing that SuperMom stated...not that the collagen is bad but we just don't know how much of it our bodies absorb.

I read something on here about Sunkist Protein and after some research I ordered it and some other stuff by the same company. You can get the Sunkist in "shots" like the one you mentioned but the ingredients include whey Protein isolate and casein protein isolate (in that order). You can get it in 25 gram and 42 gram protein (2 carbs) "shots". I bought the 42 gram and I LOVE the orange. Like I would seriously drink it with no problem - although I'm aware that may change after surgery. I also ordered a box of the grape but didn't get the fruit punch because there's a 26 gram protein shot at Walmart that's fruit punch flavored. It's pricey, but my theory is, one of those (again, smaller in volume than even one shake, let alone 3!) coupled with one scoop of unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury spread throughout the day gives me 62 grams of protein from day 1. I plan to use this until I can start getting more protein from food.

Another one that I found is called Profect and it is made by the same company, Protica Research. They're the ones that do protein candy and Jello. You can get sample flavors of the Profect 25 and then once you decide which one you like, you can order your preferred flavor in the 50 gram tubes with 0 carbs! Again, these are pricey and slightly thick but not nearly as much as a regular Protein Shake. Also, you can always thin it with Water if you choose. I actually found one flavor of the Profect 25 in a local Rite Aid but I checked 3 CVS' (where their web site says to check) but couldn't find any. It was the fresh citrus berry which again tasted like fruit punch.

Please note that the Sunkist listed on the Profect link is for 24 gram not the 42. I am cheap but I figure I'm only going to be using these for a month or so and I want to hit the ground running so it was a worthwhile splurge to me. Hope someone gets some use out of this. :)

Oh yeah! And for you East coasters - I got the Sunkist the day after I ordered it because it came from Columbus, OH and the Profect the next day because it came from PA. Just FYI.

Hi Happy,

I got my surgery on June 22nd. I am glad to hear you are on your way! The first week after surgery was rough. I bought the Profect Protein shots from my surgeons office and they were terrible!. It may just be me, but starting right after surgery, my sense of smell was extremely sensitive and I could smell everything including the Vitamins in this shot. I gave up on them and got the Isopure drinks. Grape frost was the best. These also were not really great, but I could tolerate this one. The apple melon was disgusting.

I am on my third week and starting mushies this week. Much better. I am so tired of Protein shakes, but I must get my Protein in, so I am doing what I am supposed to do. I bought a Protein powder from costco that tastes very good, it is 40 servings and 26 grams of protein isolate per shake.

PM me and if you have any other questions, I would be happy to talk to you. Long time since we talked.

collagen Protein is not a good form of Protein . You should not depend on it for your protein needs. You should be drinking whey protein with no collagen.

Did you know that collagen is made from boiled cow hides?

I am schedule for surgery on July 26th and have been doing the same thing. Got my Sunkist shots in today and was pleasantly surprised. I can drink the orange and grape very well. I am very pleased and will be getting more to have enough for after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
