I am at the start of my journey, and I plan on being sleeved by Dr. Curry at JourneyLite in Cinci!

I'm at the start of my journey, also. I'm attending an informational meeting this coming Monday 7/16 by the group from St. Vincent's Charity Hospital in Cleveland. Looking forward to receiving more info than I've already found just from the Internet and sites like this.

Went to the info meeting tonight. Was real impressed by Dr. Ben-Meir who did the whole presentation. He was very personable and answered everyone's questions. We turned in an info sheet along with our insurance info so his staff could start that process. Next comes talking with our advocate and setting up a consultation with one of the surgeons.

Since I've last posted, I've been on information overload. Since I figured I'd be self-pay (bariatric surgery excluded), I've looked at going to Mexico (lots of info and surgeons to sift through there) and trying to find surgeons here in the States who aren't as expensive, but still with a good reputation. I got the go-ahead from my PCP (I work in his office!) today and have decided to go with Dr. Mark Pleatman in Michigan. At this point, I just have to find the best time to be away from work, and get the paperwork started. I almost cried at work when I realized that this is really going to become a reality for me!!!

Hello

I'm researching as well, and am also self pay..as of right now, due to finances, I am considering surgery with Dr. Alvarez, in Mexico. There are cheaper surgeons in other areas of Mexico, but I feel comfortable in knowing that Dr. Alvarez's hospital is only 1 mile over the border from Eagle Pass, Texas in a small city away from the bulk of all the hooplah that's going on down there and the fact that he has done over 4000 sleeves with excellent reviews. Currently saving money and brainstorming for faster ways to finance my surgery :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
